Mr Becker, what immediately comes to
mind when you hear the word "coins"?
The word "coins" instantly makes me think of
the word "history". The people who have used
the coins and paid for things with them. People
who have used them to achieve something and
brought joy to themselves - or even others.
Coin collectors and enthusiasts are
particularly passionate people. Ultimately
they pursue a passion which they don't
mind spending money on. What do you
think is the fascination
with collecting coins and
medals?
Becoming a coin collector
is often not planned. We
often purchase a coin out
of curiosity. Then we get a bit of background
information and we are instantly fascinated and
our interest is awakened. We ask Google about it

and become deeply immersed in the subject. If the
circumstances allow, we then start to collect coins.
In this context, what is your favourite area
and why?
I don't have a favourite area as such. I am
actually interested in all subjects, from Croesus'
first gold coins to the silver and gold coins of
today.
It is generally assumed that the subject of
the "German Empire" is your area.
But that's not the case. The
coins before that period
are actually much more
interesting. At the start of the
German Empire much was
standardised. The empire
was established from what was a multitude of
states before 1871. Before that every kingdom,
every duchy had its own emblem on the reverse
