As creative writers we are often at a state of vulnerability when writing,
often bordering on exposing ourselves in matters sensitive to us.
Thus, the nautical term ‘Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea’ is
used by sailors when referring to a spot of the ship they need to plug
and maintain water tight which would require the sailor to stand over
the edge or sometimes be suspended on the side. This theme focuses
on the state of us writers as we express ourselves, the hesitation that
lies before we dive into our deepest thoughts and emotions.
