On Wednesday night, 10 October, our MC was one of our newer Committee Members – Malcolm Lindsay, who
was excellent.
We had the usual Birthday and Wedding Anniversary celebration singing. We also have a
90 th Birthday of one of our very regular dancers coming up soon. This young Lady is still
dancing at least twice a week – remembering all the steps too.
Our Dinner Dance “Swing into Spring”, held on Saturday night October 13, 2012 was a
wonderful success. The Organiser and Stage Decorator, Kathleen Wilson did a great job.
All the Committee, as always assisted wherever needed to bring this night to its success.
The caterers produced their really satisfying food, which was served very pleasantly by all
the staff. The music was great and this added to the fun of the night when MC Ray injected his funny comments
relating to various songs played and sung to by most of the 60 dancers. All in all another really happy night
celebrating the coming of Spring.
FLYING BOWLERS
Tomorrow we are on our way to Maitland and Cessnock for our long weekend away. Make sure you have your
bowls this evening as the Club will not be open before we leave in the morning. Three bowls
each should be enough. The coach will depart from the lower car park at 8am sharp. We
all look forward to sharing a fun time together.
Have you sent in any suggestions for next year’s weekend away or had a chat to fellow
members? Your Committee look forward to getting a few ideas as it is never too early to make
bookings and seek out distant Clubs who might enjoy a friendly game of bowls with us. Please
let a Committee member have some feed-back.
Then suddenly we will be into November and our Christmas/end of year function on Sunday 18
November. We look forward to sharing bowls and/or lunch with the majority of our members prior to
the end of year ‘madness’. The list will be passed around on the Maitland Getaway and thereafter
will be in the usual Flying Bowlers area in the men’s locker room. This event will be subsidised at a
cost of only $25 per person whether bowling or not. The Salvation Army’s “Toys for the Needy
Children Campaign” will welcome unwrapped gifts suitable for children of all ages. More information
later.
Are you experiencing or have you had the current laryngitis/chesty cold? If so, we hope you are
feeling so much better as we greet the hotter weather. To any of our members who are ‘out of sorts’,
know that you are in our thoughts. Get well soon.
INDOOR BOWLS
Last Thursday night, we played bowls in the “Forest Room” – only one word for it – “different” playing carpet on
carpet. The speed of the bowls was very slow, anyhow, everybody had a fun night and some, not so good bowls
were played.
