a weed-fre- e garden. Many
insects feed and multiply in
weeds and grass.
2. Turn under or compost
spent plants when vegetables
have been harvested.
3. Inspect plants frequently
for insect infestations.
4. Light infestations of some
species such as the tomato
hornworm may be controlled
by hand picking and destroying
the pest.
5. Isolated infestations may
be controlled by removing one
to several infested plants from
the garden to prevent spread
of a pest.
6. Anticipate insect problems
and apply insecticides
before insect populations become
established in large
numbers.
7. Select insecticides which
arc effective against a large
number of pests and arc
registered for use on a wide
variety of plants. This reduces
the purchase and storage of a
large number of different
compounds.
SAFETY IN A BOTTLE
It happens all the tune:
you're washing a child's hair,
or a youngster is pouring
herself a glass of milk, or
you're about to give your
floor a good scouring with
ammonia, when suddenly, the
bottle slips from wet fingers
onto the floor.
But this time nothing
breaks. Now an increasing
number of home, car, and personal
care products, as well as
many foods, are being packaged
in safe, sanitary plastic
containers, reports the Plastic
TTTT7
Bottle Institute These bottles
can't shatter and are much
less likely to slip out of hands,
since they often have molded
in handles or ribbed sides for
easy handling. Some even
provide other safety features
