nieces and nephews of this<br />

remarkable man. Also many<br />

area friends and the other<br />

residents of the home.<br />

Mr. Jones was alert and<br />

recalled family happenings of<br />

bygone days. He enjoyed the<br />

country music furnished by a<br />

talented group on interesting<br />

instruments, the catered<br />

refreshments and was looking<br />

forward to a game of checkers<br />

with an old friend after the<br />

other guests left. The score<br />

Lillys for his games arc little<br />

sliding bead counters which<br />

he made for sale years ago.<br />

As a young man, Mr. Jones<br />

raised cattle and sheep on a<br />

ranch south of San Angclo.<br />

Later he was with a telephone<br />

company in Throckmorton<br />

County and area towns. Now<br />

he is enjoying the restful fruits<br />

of a busy useful life.<br />

OBITUARY<br />

Funeral services for Mrs.<br />

Oscar (Lillic) Norman, 87, of<br />

San Angclo and formerly of<br />

Rule, were held April 26, in<br />

the First Baptist Church of<br />

Rule. Rev. Sam Sharp, pastor<br />

of the First Christian Church<br />

of Haskell officiated. Burial<br />

was in the Rule Cemetery.<br />

Mrs. Norman died April 25th,<br />

in San Angclo.<br />

Mrs. Norman was born<br />

September 4, 1887, in May,<br />

and had been a Rule resident<br />

74 years. She married Oscar<br />

Norman, May 4, 1902, in Rule.<br />

He preceded her in death in<br />

1956.<br />

Survivors include a daughter,<br />

Mrs. Kathryn Smith of<br />

San Angclo; a son, Burton of<br />

Abilene; four grandchildren<br />

and two sisters, Mrs. Claud<br />

Ashley of Haskell and Mrs.<br />

Lonnic Lawson of Seminole.<br />

Homemakcrs met April 14,<br />

with Mrs. J. B. Toncy of<br />

Sagcrton as guest speaker on<br />

Africa The topic of Mrs.<br />

Toncy's talk was the role of<br />

the African woman in Senegal,<br />

her purpose in life, her<br />

religion, her dress and the<br />

family life. Mr. and Mrs.<br />

Toncy were residents of Dakar<br />

of Senegal in West Africa for<br />

two years. Following the talk,<br />

questions were asked and<br />

discussed.<br />

Hostesses were Mrs. Judy<br />

New and Mrs. Sherry Fannin.<br />

GIN SUPPER<br />

The Rule Cooperative Gin<br />

held their annual supper and<br />

stockholders meeting on April<br />

22, in the Rule School. The<br />

barbecue meal prepared by<br />

the junior class served 433<br />

persons. Following the supper<br />

a business meeting and<br />

drawing for door prizes was<br />

held in the auditorium.<br />

A. D. May welcomed guests<br />

and Rev. J. R. Williams led<br />

the prayer. The auditors<br />

report was given by Mr.<br />

Borden Duffle of Abilene. The<br />

managers report was given by<br />

April 26. and failed to<br />

qualify a boy for the state<br />

meet. Winning the over-al- l<br />

meet was Cherokee with 56<br />

points, 2nd was Goree with 44.<br />

Meridian with 42. Alvord with<br />

37, Bronte. 30. and Rule and<br />

Paradise tied for 6th with 20<br />

points apiece.<br />

Boys entered in the meet<br />

were; Steve Anders in the<br />

high jump and 120 high<br />

hurdles. Donald Bilbo in the<br />

330 1 hurdles. Robert Baia<br />

and Jerry lumlinson in the<br />

shot, Jimmy Macias in the<br />

discus. Wcs Kittlcy in the 440,<br />

Jeff Denson in the broad jump<br />

and 220, placing 4th in the<br />

220. The sprint relay team ran<br />

a 45.8 and placed 4th. They<br />

were Johnny Menchaca. Charles<br />

Threet. Jeff Denson and<br />

Gary Lewis. The mile relay<br />

team also placed 4th with a<br />

37.1. They were Gary Lewis.<br />

Rule can well be proud of<br />

their track team. Each and<br />

every individual put forth<br />

every effort to try and all one<br />

can ask is this. Injuries<br />

happen and it seems a shame<br />

that Rule's seem to happen<br />

between their district and<br />

regional meet but. Rule has a<br />

young track team and promise<br />

of a success season look good<br />

for next year. We're proud of<br />
