Temple Reopening Letter
Reopening Committee
We are very pleased to announce our return to the Sanctuary for Shabbat
services on July 9, and our Kehillah MAGNET Religious School and Early
Learning Center (ELC) activities in September. To ensure everyone’s safety,
masks will be required when we return in July. As we gain more information
about higher rates of vaccination, lower rates of transmission, and lower risk in
Harford and Cecil counties, we will relax masking and distancing requirements
as appropriate. We look forward to seeing you back at shul!
It’s hard to imagine a time when we didn’t know COVID-19 existed. Now when
people say “virus,” we know what they mean. COVID-19 has impacted our lives,
our work, our activities, and our freedoms.
Through the good work of many of our congregants, we have, primarily through
technology, maintained Shabbat and holiday services; cared for those who have
been ill; mourned for those who have died or lost a loved one; and continued
learning within the Religious School, the ELC, and adult education classes. The
safety of our staff, members, and guests has been (and will continue to be)
paramount.
The responsibility is ours, as a community, to help stop this virus. A recent
Central Conference of American Rabbis Responsa concluded that 1) “It is a
mitzvah to preserve one’s own health and well-being (sh’mirat haguf). The
COVID-19 vaccines approved by the CDC (Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J) qualify
as r’fuah b’dukah, proven treatment, and it is therefore a mitzvah to get
vaccinated unless one has a medical reason that makes it unsafe.”, and 2) “It is a
mitzvah to adhere to standards of safety that avert obvious dangers (sakanat
nefashot) to others or to oneself.”
It takes everyone.
We all need to step up to beat COVID-19, and the very best tool that we have is
a COVID-19 vaccine. We ask you to join us in protecting your community by
getting vaccinated.
Getting vaccinated adds an important layer of protection for you, your
coworkers, your family, and your loved ones. Here are some things to know
about COVID-19 vaccination:
