PB3 POWERBUOY
Tecnología: Energía Undimotriz / Convertidor de energía
undimotriz (energía de las olas) en electricidad.
Potencia Instalada: 15kW

y privilegiando a nuestros trabajadores.
energía limpia a precios competitivos.

Chile se suma a Campaña “Drive to Zero”
continuará abordando otras temáticas como trayectoria laboral; conciliación;
y sesgos y nuevas masculinidades.
nuestro trabajo y estar permanentemente conectados”, comenta.
Héctor
Vidal
Socio
hvidal@ivm.cl

sector energético a nivel regional.
ficción, ver cine y series, especialmente policiales, y viajar.
abastecer a nuestros clientes.

Technology: Wave energy converter into electricity
Installed Power: 15kW
Energy Storage Capacity: 50 kWh
Region: Valparaíso Region
Injected Grid: None at this time. The energy generated is to
power the buoy's oceanographic sensor system, in order to
collect data and information in this experimental phase of the
project.
ACERA Member Company: Enel Green Power Chile
This innovative system is the first of its kind in Latin America and
the fifth worldwide and will allow research into the development
and growth of marine energy in Chile under real oceanographic
conditions. The initiative is being developed as part of the Open
Sea Lab project, carried out by MERIC, the first marine energy
center of excellence in Latin America, an institution co-founded
by Enel Green Power Chile and Naval Energies, a European
company specialized in marine energy technologies.
"This type of energy production has several advantages: it is
available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, it is silent and it is not
located in populated areas. This country has excellent conditions
in terms of marine resources to produce energy from waves and
the installation of this device represents a great step forward in the
development of renewable energies in Chile", commented James
Lee Stancampiano, Chairman of the Board of MERIC and General
Manager of Enel Chile.

BELIEVE IN CHILE
In the middle of the Atacama Desert and under a radiant sun, we finally
inaugurated our solar thermal plant, which began as an almost impossible
dream around 2014, but in which we believed firmly from the beginning.
Since then we could proudly say that we were building the first thermosolar
plant in Latin America. Today that dream has become a reality, and this
inauguration was undoubtedly the most important milestone for Cerro
Dominador. But this great milestone, and this enormous feeling of pride, is
shared by all of us who were part of this magnificent story. Each person who
believed and had some participation in this project says, and rightly so, "this
project is mine".
CEO Cerro Dominador
I have rarely seen an infrastructure work generate so much attachment, so
much affection and so much identification in people. This is more than
cement, metal and mirrors. That is why I dare to say that Cerro Dominador
is more than the first CSP plant in the Region. It is more than a project that
puts Chile at the forefront of renewable energy. It is much more than the
impact it has generated in terms of innovation, development and gender
equity issues. Cerro Dominador is mainly an example of what it means to
believe, to believe in an idea, to believe in making the impossible possible, to
believe in ourselves, to believe in Chile.
In 2012, the Chilean Government believed that we were fertile territory to
install a Concentrating Solar Power plant. Then, in 2014, Abengoa believed
that CSP technology would have a future in the country. Two years later,
when we were awarded power sales contracts it was because we believed
it was possible to win in this highly competitive market. In 2015, EIG joined
the project because it believed in being part of Chile's incipient energy transformation.
At the end of 2016, we invested more than US$ 70 million in the
PV plant because we believed that words and promises should be reinforced
with financial commitments. A year later Acciona together with Abengoa
decided to join forces and finish the project because they believed that
the risks of this technology were controlled. Then, national and international
banks, EIG, the German bank KfW and the European Union decided to finance
the rest of the project because they believed that this plant deserved to
be finished. 2020 came and despite the pandemic, we believed that we
could continue to move forward with construction in a safe and secure way
that privileged our workers. And so we did. Throughout this process, Songel,
Fresia, Romina, Margarita and many other women who believed in themselves,
were encouraged to do tasks that were previously only for men. Likewise,
companies such as COPEC and SAESA believed that a project still under
construction called Cerro Dominador could provide them with clean
energy at competitive prices.
For all this, I insist that Cerro Dominador is a project that belongs to all of us.
To the thousands of people who were part of it in one way or another.
Because we believed and worked tirelessly to make it a reality. And because
in a scenario of uncertainty, we continue to believe in innovation, in work,
and in the benefits that this technology can bring to the country's goal of
carbon neutrality. Because we believed and continue to believe in Chile.

NEWS
NCRE quota to double by
2030
One of the most important objectives for ACERA is to achieve a 100%
renewable energy matrix, as well as for the energy sector to advance
in the energy transition towards the use of clean energies. It is in this
line that the biminister of Energy and Mining, Juan Carlos Jobet,
announced an update of the goal of Non-Conventional Renewable
Energies (NCRE), doubling the obligation of quotas in the National
Electric System, going from 20% to 40% by the end of this decade.
This update will be introduced as a bill in Congress, where it will have
to be discussed and approved. "This is the decade in which we will
consolidate Chile as a clean energy country. Thus, we will be cleaning
up our cities and we will help to curb climate change and improve
people's quality of life", highlighted Minister Jobet.
ACERA, however, maintains that the goal could be more ambitious. "A
high share of NCRE, which we are convinced could be 60% by 2030,
also enables the use of these energies in new applications. The most
obvious are the production of green hydrogen and the electrification
of sectors that currently have a high consumption of fossil fuels and
pollutants, where the transport sector is probably the most obvious,
and we should not exclude the residential consumption sector," said
ACERA's executive director, Carlos Finat.
In line with Finat's comments, the legal initiative will also seek to
encourage the development of green hydrogen and the advancement
of electromobility.
Cerro Dominador: Latin America's first
CSP power plant inaugurated
In June, one of the most eagerly awaited milestones for the energy industry
was the inauguration of the Cerro Dominador Concentrating Solar Power
(CSP) plant, located in the district of María Elena, in the heart of the Atacama
Desert. This follows a gradual synchronization with the National Electric
System.
The CSP plant generates 100% clean energy 24 hours a day and its start of
operations is a key milestone in the decarbonization commitments assumed by
Chile and is a great contribution to achieve a renewable energy matrix. "We are
proud to contribute with clean, flexible and innovative energy to the
achievement of Chile's carbon neutrality goals," said Fernando Gonzalez, CEO
of Cerro Dominador, an ACERA member company.
The inauguration was attended by the President of the Republic, Sebastián
Piñera, the Minister of Energy and Mining, Juan Carlos Jobet, and the Minister
of the Environment, Carolina Schmidt, who agreed that Cerro Dominador
represents an important step in the energy transition process that the country
is undergoing.
The solar thermal plant will prevent the emission of approximately 640,000
tons of CO2 per year and could supply a city of approximately 380,000 homes.
Together with its photovoltaic plant, Cerro Dominador generates 210 MW of
energy.

Chile joins "Drive to Zero" Campaign
Within the framework of the Clean Energy Ministerial and Mission Innovation
(CEM6-MI12), Chile joined the commitment of some leading countries in
electromobility, through the "Drive to Zero" campaign, where the States
commit to play an important role in the accelerated incorporation of medium
and heavy electric vehicles.
Canada, China, Chile, Finland, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway and
Sweden signed this agreement. The campaign will support the objectives of
accelerating the adoption of zero-emission medium and heavy-duty vehicles
through a Global Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will be
launched before COP26 by CALSTART -the campaign's operational agent- and
the Netherlands.
"In Chile we know that it is urgent to stop the consumption of fossil fuels and
promote the incorporation of new clean technologies. Therefore, being part of
this campaign, where only global leaders participate, fills us with pride and
challenges us to move forward at an accelerated pace in the incorporation of
electromobility in Chile. This technology will undoubtedly play a crucial role in
achieving our goal of carbon neutrality at a local and global level," said the
Undersecretary of Energy, Francisco Lopez.
The CEM6-MI12 is an international event that Chile hosted during June, and
together with the world's largest economies sought to advance in clean energy,
with the aim of setting the guidelines for the COP26 and curbing global
warming.
Energy +Woman held a workshop on
"Gender Wage Gaps".
Based on the Energy Route 2018-2022, in its Axis 2 called "Energy with social
seal: the heart of our work", three commitments were defined to achieve a
greater insertion of women in the sector: implement a Public-Private
Roundtable, which today brings together the main guilds -among which
ACERA is included- and institutions of the sector; carry out a diagnosis of
barriers and gaps together with the Private Sector, which was successfully
executed and from which the third commitment could be defined, which was
to formulate a "Public-Private Action Plan".
It is precisely within the framework of this implementation that this year a
Technical Assistance Cycle is being carried out, organized by the Ministry of
Energy, in collaboration with the Energy Sustainability Agency, the Ministry of
Women and Gender Equality, and the Ministry of Mining, which began this
week with the first workshop on wage equality, and which will continue to
address other topics such as labor trajectory; conciliation; and biases and new
masculinities.
The 1st workshop "Gender Wage Gaps" is available through the YouTube
channel of the Ministry of Energy and its PPT and practical guide -which
include specific thematic bibliography- can be downloaded from the
resources section of the website www.energiamasmujer.cl.
MEET OUR
MEMBERS
Héctor is Chilean, a lawyer and father of a 1 year and 9 months old boy. Among the
great hobbies of the partner of IVM Abogados is rock climbing. He says that he usually
trains at a climbing gym and regularly goes on climbing trips both in Chile and abroad
with friends and family.
Why did you decide to focus your career on the energy industry?
I consider that this industry is very dynamic and mixes a series of skills that are very
demanding for a lawyer. In addition to the above, it is a sector in constant development and
change, which makes it very intellectually challenging.
Regarding the elements that characterize or differentiate the IVM law firm, Héctor
highlights that the main thing is the way they work and advise their clients. "Due to our
structure, the partners are the ones totally dedicated to attend the different requirements
and works that are entrusted to us. On the other hand, for years we have been working with
a series of technological tools that allow us to be efficient in our work and to be
permanently connected," he says.
He also says that many of its lawyers have developed extensive experience in different fields
in which they provide services, being able to work closely with domestic and foreign
clients. They provide high quality advice, acting as a team that incorporates new trends and
innovative solutions, thus enabling the client to cope with the difficulties that arise. "This
style has allowed us to advise clients on large-scale businesses, to be recognized in the
market and to have a portfolio of exclusive and well-known clients," he adds.
Héctor
Vidal
Partner
hvidal@ivm.cl
What are the products or services your company delivers and towards which type(s) of
Renewable Energy?
We provide permanent legal advice to all actors in the electricity sector, mainly in the
generation sector. We have advised on the development, construction, purchase, sale,
operation, among others, of solar and wind projects throughout Chile. We have also
worked, for almost two years now, in the development and construction of a Hydrogen
plant in the north of Chile.
In this sense, our legal services refer to corporate, environmental, tax, purchase and sale of
companies, commercial contracting in general, real estate matters and a wide range of
services that can be reviewed in our website.
Regarding the changes or novelties that IVM Abogados has undergone during the last
period, Héctor says that due to the pandemic they had to accelerate their transition to
teleworking, a matter that, he says, was quite fast and without major difficulties, since they
were prepared.
On the other hand, in the field of energy, he highlights that the main novelty is that they can
say that they are the first to lead a consultancy for a green hydrogen generation project that
is under construction and with all the necessary permits for it.
As for the projects in which they are currently involved, Héctor points out that they are
working on the development and construction of different generation plants, wind and
solar, both PMG, PMGD and large-scale, from the first to the tenth region of the country.
For Héctor, the relevance of renewable energies is absolute. "They are the great engine of
our electricity industry and what is taking Chile to a position unimaginable 10-15 years ago,
a change of our matrix", he concludes.
Why would you recommend ACERA membership?
ACERA allows you to be in contact with the main players in the industry, to have updated
and first source information regarding what is happening in the market, bills, specific
regulations that are being processed or discussed, among other things. On the other hand,
ACERA is concerned with creating opportunities for its members to meet, even under the
current conditions and limitations.

Mauricio is Chilean, 42 years old, married and has a doggy son named Mapocho. He has
a degree in Environmental Sciences and Economics, with more than 13 years of
experience in the energy sector at a regional level. His hobbies include reading fiction
novels, watching movies and series, especially police, and traveling.
Why did you decide to focus your career on the energy industry?
I understood that energy was the way to integrate my two professional interests, the
environment and the economy. In this sense, energy, with its renewable technologies, is
the one that can accompany an economic growth with less and less carbon footprint. We
still have a long way to go to achieve low-emission growth, but energy must undoubtedly
be one of the most revolutionary industries in terms of new generation technologies that
have considerably reduced carbon emissions.
Mauricio
Maturana
Operations Director
mauricio.maturana@safiraenergia.cl
Regarding the characterizing elements of Safira Energía, Mauricio highlights that it is an
energy trader whose main focus is the sale of energy to Free Clients and, therefore, they
have increasing energy purchase needs from generators.
"Our main feature is that we offer a comprehensive service complementary to the sale of
energy to free customers. Another differentiating aspect is that we are digitalizing and
reducing the asymmetry of information to end customers. We seek to democratize access
to 100% renewable energy contracts at fair prices. An example of this is our LUCE platform,
which can be reviewed on our website," he says.
What are the products or services your company delivers and towards which type(s) of
Renewable Energy?
Our products can be associated to the purchase of energy from generators and sale to Free
Clients, which can have price and term alternatives, mainly differentiated in fixed price,
price per hourly block, flat block, generation curve, as well as short term periods that can
range from two to six months, or medium or long term, from 1 to 4 years generally.
On the other hand, since we are traders, we have energy purchase needs to supply our
customers. Our vision is to have a 100% renewable energy portfolio. Therefore, today we
have the need to buy from wind, solar, and hydroelectric generators, among others, and
we do not have requirements to purchase specific consumption curves, but we directly
buy the generation curve of the plant. This, added to our variety of purchase alternatives
such as options contracts, financial contracts, different terms and wholesale volumes,
make us an interesting player for the renewable generator in Chile.
Regarding Safira's latest developments, Mauricio says that in its third year of operation in
Chile, they already have clients from Antofagasta to Puerto Montt, and from different
industries. "The challenge we are working on now is to digitalize all our products and
services. Our goal is to deliver a product that is tailored to the needs of each client, but with
the convenience of having all their information online and at the reach of their computer
and easy to handle," he adds. He also says that in Brazil they have made a great leap in their
business model with the creation of Safira Solar, which is the company in charge of the
development and implementation of PV solar parks.
Why would you recommend ACERA membership?
ACERA is an association that has actively participated in regulatory changes focused on
increasing competitiveness and decarbonization of the energy matrix. In addition,
important companies and agents related to the sector participate, which translates into a
high representation of its associates and allows us to improve our company's position.
For us, the relationship with generators is of utmost importance, as we consider them our
partners in business development. ACERA is a platform that has allowed us to strengthen
this relationship through events that generate networking or spaces to promote our
services and products. And all based on a view that we share within Safira, the contribution
of renewable energies to the environmental sustainability of the country.

The pandemic caused by the coronavirus has allowed people from different
parts of the world to meet thanks to a single click. It is precisely for this reason
that ACERA decided to carry out a virtual version of its traditional "Training on
Energy and Renewables for Communicators", better known as the "ACERA
Press Course", seeking to provide a conceptual framework to support them in
the coverage of news on energy and in particular on Renewable Energies.
The first session of the course was held in May, with presentations by ACERA's
president and executive director, who spoke about the benefits of electricity,
segmentation and generation technologies. The second session was in charge
of the executive director of Valgesta Nueva Energía, Ramón Galaz, who
addressed the structure of the market and operation of the system, delving into
the regulation and new norms for the Chilean electricity sector.
The ACERA press course, aimed at media journalists as well as corporate
communicators involved in energy and sustainability matters in general, has
eight official sessiones and two extraordinary sessions, covering various
relevant topics on the industry and Chile's energy transition. Interested persons
can still register at camila.mercado@acera.cl.
