Hyundai is better known in Australia for
its light vehicles but, in its home territory,
the Korean brand dominates the mediumand
heavy-duty segments, with trucks like
the Xcient being the mainstay of trucking
in Korea.
So, what do you get for the asking price?
Basically you get a brand new truck with
options including alloy wheels, roof and
side spoilers and an alloy bullbar, while, on
the inside, the high roof with hatch allows
a 860mm-wide bunk in the sleeper and a
thermo drawer.
Power from the 12.7-litre engine is rated at
520hp (388kW) and twist at 2,550Nm backed
by a ZF 12-speed AMT box with four-stage
retarder and exhaust brake. A Jost JSK37C
turntable lives out the back with features like
cruise control, eight-airbag suspension, disc
brakes on all axles and power take-off spare
wheel and mount. Finally, add in Hyundai’s
three-year/500,00km warranty to the mix.
The interior is much more modern than
any bonneted truck, taking its ergonomic
clues from the passenger car side of
Hyundai’s business, and is generally a
good place to be.
While the Australian market refuses to shift
from preconceived prejudices, the Hyundai
offers plenty of truck for the money which
makes it worth a look.
