ary Eucelle <strong>Singletary</strong> entered into eternal rest<br />

Monday, July 12, 2021. She was born on<br />

October 24, 1927 to the late Oscar L. <strong>Singletary</strong> and<br />

Bessie R. McElveen <strong>Singletary</strong> in Olanta, South Carolina.<br />

She was preceded in death by her brother, Curtis <strong>Singletary</strong>,<br />

and two sisters, Octavia S. Martin, and Fannie Alice <strong>Singletary</strong>.<br />

<strong>Mary</strong> accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age.<br />

She attended Jordan Chapel Baptist Church in Olanta,<br />

South Carolina with her parents. She later became a member<br />

of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Lake City,<br />

South Carolina. Upon relocating to Florence, <strong>Mary</strong> became<br />

a member of Cumberland United Methodist Church where<br />

she was an active member of the United Methodist Women,<br />

Interest Area #8 and a member of the third Sunday Choir.<br />

“Eucelle”, as she is known to many, received her education in<br />

Florence County Schools, a graduate of Wilson High School,<br />

class of 1945. She received her B.S. Degree in Elementary<br />

Education from South Carolina State College. After graduation<br />

from college, Eucelle returned home to teach in Florence<br />

County where her career expanded thirty-seven years. She<br />

was an excellent teacher and mentor in the community. Little<br />

known fact: <strong>Mary</strong> taught Ronald E. McNair, the NASA Astronaut<br />

and Physicist.<br />

She leaves to cherish her memories, special nieces and nephews,<br />

Lionel (Doreen) Martin of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina,<br />

Vanessa Heggs of Providence, Rhode Island, Adrienne<br />

(Victor) Ray of Warner Robins, Georgia, Avery Martin of<br />

Florence and a host of grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins<br />

and friends.
