The Bhangra Boss - The Story of DJ Vips :: 

10.30–11pm on BBC Scotland. This 

documentary tells the story of the successful 

Edinburgh-based Bhangra DJ and record label 

boss DJ Vips - Vipen Kumar - who died in 2019. 

Originally from India, DJ Vips started DJing at 

Asian weddings in the 1990s and progressed to 

creating the biggest entertainment agency of 

DJs in Scotland. He produced his own album 

‘Party Time’ in 2005 which he released on his 

own VIP Records label. Initially supporting local 

Scottish Bhangra talent the record label gained 

international recognition. It now has a fanbase 

attracting over 1 billion streams with releases 

from Bhangra stars like Diljit Dosanjh, Rahim 

Paredesi, and Tru-Skool. Friends, family, and 

musicians recount stories and memories of this 

much-loved character who was the pioneer 

behind regenerating the Bhangra scene in 

Scotland. The Bhangra Boss - The Story of DJ 

Vips is a Demus Productions programme for BBC 

Scotland.

TEENAGE FANCLUB :: At Forum, London. 

Scottish alternative rock band Teenage Fanclub 

have shared a preview of their highlyanticipated 

album with a new song and video. 

“In Our Dreams”, written by the band's 

Raymond McGinley, is the fifth single off Endless 

Arcade (now out). The song evokes an 

exploratory voyage inward and reflects the 

melancholic yet uplifting themes present 

throughout the rest of the record. The video was 

shot at Motherwell Concert Hall by long-time 

collaborator Donald Milne. McGinley had this to 

say about the new song: “To rephrase an 

aphorism most famously used by John Lennon, 

existence is what happens while the human race 

is busy making other plans. This song is kinda 

about that, but like all our songs, we write them 

intuitively and only think about what to say 

about them afterwards.” Even if we weren’t 

living through extraordinarily troubling times, 

there is nothing quite like a Teenage Fanclub 

album to assuage the mind, body and soul, and 

to reaffirm that all is not lost in this world.

London. Edinburgh's Bow Anderson has unveiled 

her beautiful new single, ‘Hate That I Fell In 

Love With You’, which is available now. This is 

the fast-rising Scottish pop star’s first new music 

since debut EP ‘New Wave’ - and breakout single 

‘Sweater’ - which picked up early support across 

Radio 1 and Apple Music 1, saw Bow named one 

of Vevo's Ones to Watch, went top 20 on 

Spotify's Viral Charts and led to Anderson’s first 

TV appearances on the likes of Children In Need. 

Bow has also announced shows at Edinburgh’s 

Sneaky Pete’s on 22nd September and London’s

ROBERT JON & THE WRECK with special 

guest TROY REDFERN :: At Voodoo Rooms, 

Edinburgh. Robert Jon & The Wreck have 

confirmed British blues rock slide guitarist Troy 

Redfern as their special guest on their 

September 2021 UK Tour. Robert Jon & The 

Wreck will perform songs from the rich back 

catalogue including their critically acclaimed

ECHO MACHINE :: At Sneaky Petes, 

Edinburgh. A loud Pop Group from Dundee, and 

they have gigs! "They will be a flippin' hoot!" 

Echo Machine played the King Tut's Summer 

Nights Festival in 2019. In addition to 

performing live, the band released a number of 

singles in their first year together, many of 

which arrived with accompanying videos. Debut 

single St Elmo was followed by Vibrations, 

Chameleon and Automatic Love, the latter being 

reviewed as a 'bruising, belter of a song'. In

his 30th Anniversary as a professional musician,

2021 featuring tracks from his solo records and

JUST MUSTARD :: At Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh. 

Just Mustard consist of vocalist Katie Ball, 

guitarists David Noonan (also backing vocals) 

and Mete Kalyon, bassist Rob Clarke, and 

drummer Shane Maguire. Their heady blend of 

noise, trip hop, and electronic-influenced music 

has helped them build a reputation as one of 

Ireland’s most thrilling new bands. Their 2018 

debut ‘Wednesday’ earned acclaim at home and 

abroad – most notably capturing a Choice Music 

Prize nomination for Irish Album of the Year. 

Fader praised the band’s “intense and rich 

shoegaze-meets-noise sound,” NME called their 

album “a two-toned masterpiece,” the Irish 

Independent described it as “a swirling 

atmosphere-heavy thrill-ride,” and Stereogum 

said “it’s easy to imagine Just Mustard garnering 

more international attention in the near future”. 

Their 2019 double A-side ‘Frank/October’ earned 

spotlights from KEXP as a ‘Song Of The Day’ and

40-date tour of the UK and Ireland through 

November and December of this year offering a 

chance for many to finally see just why they've 

become one of the most exciting and talkedabout 

punk bands in the world over the past 

year. Fronted by Manning (a former cabbie who 

now also works as an electrician), Chubby and 

the Gang have been leading a pack of bands 

coming out of a new wave of British Hardcore. 

Speed Kills was one of the critical surprises of 

the year thanks to its unrelentingly fun 

concoction of hardcore, pub rock, doo wop, and 

blues. The album was produced by Jonah Falco 

of F**ked Up, and boasts songs of deep 

substance and political conscience with a precise 

sense of time and place. It received an 8.0 

Pitchfork review, Stereogum praised its “massive 

barroom gang choruses, power chords at 

breakneck tempos, rock spelled R-A-W-K and 

visceral gratification,” while The Guardian 

declared them "UK punk's most vital new band" 

and NME called them "the scene's clear frontrunners" 

and Speed Kills "a thrilling whiteknuckle

JAWS :: At The Mash House, Edinburgh. JAWS 

take to the road this winter for their first live 

dates since 2019. The band’s new limited edition 

book includes intimate behind the scenes 

photographs and captivating images from the 

stage during the band’s 2019 tour dates in 

Bristol, Southampton, Oxford, Nottingham, 

Liverpool, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Belfast, Dublin, 

Leeds and Coventry. Speaking about the book, 

Connor elaborates: "Originally there was no 

intention to make a book, we had Peter out on 

the road with us taking pictures but we thought 

it would be cool to use all the photos from one 

period of time to create something physical

my hard drive for the rest of time. We’re all

DJANGO DJANGO :: At The Mash House, 

Edinburgh. Back in the old world at the start of 

2020, our psychedelic punk heroes The Lovely 

Eggs were primed to release their new album ‘I 

Am Moron’ – their greatest work yet, overflowing 

with political venom and fresh ideas, set 

to a gloriously independent noise. Then, of 

course, the pandemic happened. The Lovely 

Eggs pushed ahead, and the album came out to 

critical-acclaim and indie chart-topping status, 

but their plans to tour it far and wide were 

obviously scuppered. At first, their UK tour was 

rescheduled to just two months later, thinking 

there’s no way the pandemic could last more 

than a few weeks…. Fast forward a year, their 

UK tour has been rebooked independently by the 

band at least five times and The Lovely Eggs are 

still yet to play the new album live, but new tour 

dtaes are now on sale for 2022.

hell is Jerry Joseph? Well Patterson Hood and 

Jason Isbell have gone on record saying he is 

one of the best songwriters and performers 

ever, and are such believers that they backed 

him up on his newest album. Jason Isbell 

called him one of the greatest triple threats, a 

great singer, songwriter and performer. 

Richmond Fontaine liked him so much they 

took him on support for their UK farewell tour 

in 2016. 


16 SEPTEMBER 

TEENAGE FANCLUB :: At Barrowland, 

Glasgow. Scottish alternative rock band 

Teenage Fanclub have shared a preview of 

their highly-anticipated album with a new song 

and video. “In Our Dreams”, written by the 

band's Raymond McGinley, is the fifth single 

off Endless Arcade (now out). The song evokes 

an exploratory voyage inward and reflects the 


throughout the rest of the record. The video 

was shot at Motherwell Concert Hall by longtime 

collaborator Donald Milne. McGinley had 

this to say about the new song: “To rephrase 

an aphorism most famously used by John 

Lennon, existence is what happens while the 

human race is busy making other plans. This 

song is kinda about that, but like all our songs, 

we write them intuitively and only think about 

what to say about them afterwards.” Even if 

we weren’t living through extraordinarily 

troubling times, there is nothing quite like a 

Teenage Fanclub album to assuage the mind, 

body and soul, and to reaffirm that all is not 

lost in this world.

The Fallen Angels Club presents ..... THE 

HANDSOME FAMILY plus DANIEL KNOX :: 

At Community Central Halls (CCH), Marhill 

Road, Glasgow. The Handsome Family have 

written some of the most haunting and 

beautiful songs in American music. During a 

30-year career, Brett and Rennie Sparks have 

created songs that transform the mundane 

landscape of modern life into a place of 

mysterious portent. 


A new movie show which captures a 

fresh performance by renowned 

music artistes, the Red Hot Chilli 

Pipers, will feature as digital 

content streamed online at this 

year’s HebCelt Survival Sessions. 

The new work is 45 minutes in length and will be a 

key programme feature on Saturday, 17 July for the 

event’s final night. A hybrid mix of live, prerecorded 

and specially commissioned shows have 

been produced for the HebCelt Survival Sessions 

which will see the festival continue its journey back 

from the impacts of the pandemic. 

Co-founder and director of the Red Hot Chilli 

Pipers, Willie Armstrong, said: “We’re working in 

the amazing Coda studios with Stevie Richmond 

and his team. As we can’t play to a live audience we 

thought we’d spend as much as we can on the 

production as it’s so difficult to try and recreate a 

live music vibe when you have no audience. We’re 

using our new lighting rig and lighting director so 

we’re all looking forward to seeing this. This is our 

first virtual gig we've agreed to because of our 

fantastic relationship with HebCelt. 

“There have been lots of challenges. Lots to 

overcome. We had to tailor the set list to meet 

them. Unfortunately, we’re unable to perform to a 

live audience therefore no crowd interaction is the 

biggest challenge. Making it as impactful as it

ECHO MACHINE :: At Broadcast, Glasgow. A 

loud Pop Group from Dundee, and they have 

gigs! "They will be a flippin' hoot!" Echo Machine 

played the King Tut's Summer Nights Festival in 

2019. In addition to performing live, the band 

released a number of singles in their first year 

together, many of which arrived with 

accompanying videos. Debut single St Elmo was 

followed by Vibrations, Chameleon and 

Automatic Love, the latter being reviewed as a 

'bruising, belter of a song'. In addition to these 

videos, Echo Machine collaborated with Thai 

singer Janine Alissa Wollmann on a cover of the 

Billie Eilish track Bad Guy, producing an 

accompanying music video. Their single 

'Headlights' was also well-reviewed, being 

described as 'infectious discowave'. The success 

of the band in 2019 prompted BBC radio

MADNESS :: At SSE Hydro, Glasgow. Madness 

have today announced their sure-to-be

Chubby and the Gang have announced a bumper

KING KING plus special guests THE DAMN 

TRUTH :: At O2 Academy, Glasgow. The Damn 

Truth have extensively toured Europe and the 

USA, opened tours for Z.Z. Top (and partied 

with Billy Gibbons in his pyjamas), the 

Sheepdogs, Styx, and Rival Sons.They sold out 

the legendary Whisky a Go-Go in Los Angeles, 

sold out the Corona Theatre in their hometown 

of Montreal, and even had one of their videos 

featured on the official Janis Joplin Facebook 

page. It's a culmination of a lot of blood, sweat 

and tears that’s come fruition with “Now or 

Nowhere”. “Now or Nowhere” chronicles the 

band as they navigate life, love, and everything 

else in a world gone seemingly upside down and 

sideways during the past year they were unable 

to finish the album with Bob because of COVID- 

19 restrictions, the band recorded the remaining 

three songs with help from Juno Award-winning 

producer Jean Massicotte (Patrick Watson, The 

Damn Truth) who mixed “Everything Fades”; 

and the rest of the mixing was done by Vance 

Powell (Jack White, Chris Stapleton), Nick DiDia 

(Bruce Springsteen, Rage Against The Machine), 

and Mike Plotnikoff (Van Halen, Cranberries,

TROY REDFERN on tour with 'WILLE & THE 

BANDITS' :: At Hug & Pint, Glasgow. Slide 

guitarist and singer-songwriter, Troy Redfern, 

dubbed by the British press as “the king of slide 

guitar,". Troy cut his teeth and refined his style 

over the last few years, playing festival main 

stages and blazing a trail across Europe, 

Scandinavia, and Russia. He’s also become a 

well-known draw on the UK Blues Rock festival 

circuit, playing alongside rock luminaries 

including Robert Plant. “Troy is a passionate, 

intense, free-spirited musician whose ferocious 

slide guitar style twists and turns timeless

DJANGO DJANGO :: At Stereo, Glasgow. Back 

in the old world at the start of 2020, our 

psychedelic punk heroes The Lovely Eggs were 

primed to release their new album ‘I Am 

Moron’ – their greatest work yet, over-flowing 

with political venom and fresh ideas, set to a 

gloriously independent noise. Then, of course, 

the pandemic happened. The Lovely Eggs 

pushed ahead, and the album came out to 

critical-acclaim and indie chart-topping status, 

but their plans to tour it far and wide were 

obviously scuppered. At first, their UK tour was 

rescheduled to just two months later, thinking 

there’s no way the pandemic could last more 

than a few weeks…. Fast forward a year, their 

UK tour has been rebooked independently by the 

band at least five times and The Lovely Eggs are 

still yet to play the new album live, but new tour 

dtaes are now on sale for 2022.

ECHO MACHINE supporting THE NINTH 

WAVE :: At Church, Dundee. A loud Pop Group 

from Dundee, and they have gigs! "They will be 

a flippin' hoot!" Echo Machine played the King 

Tut's Summer Nights Festival in 2019. In 

addition to performing live, the band released a 

number of singles in their first year together, 

many of which arrived with accompanying 

videos. Debut single St Elmo was followed by 

Vibrations, Chameleon and Automatic Love, the 

latter being reviewed as a 'bruising, belter of a 

song'. In addition to these videos, Echo Machine 

collaborated with Thai singer Janine Alissa 

Wollmann on a cover of the Billie Eilish track Bad 

Guy, producing an accompanying music video. 

Their single 'Headlights' was also well-reviewed, 

being described as 'infectious discowave'. The

Fiddler’s Bid. Last seen in Crail with Robyn 

Stapleton and Claire Hastings. Laura-Beth Salter 

takes influence from the Oldtime and Bluegrass 

music that her parents played whilst she was 

growing up in Lincolnshire. After spending time 

studying a Traditional Music Degree in Newcastle 

she became heavily involved in the folk scene. 

She is a founding member of The Shee and a 

member of The MacLean Project led by Dougie

TEENAGE FANCLUB :: At Music Hall, Aberdeen. 

Scottish alternative rock band Teenage Fanclub 

have shared a preview of their highly-anticipated 

album with a new song and video. “In Our 

Dreams”, written by the band's Raymond 

McGinley, is the fifth single off Endless Arcade 

(now out). The song evokes an exploratory 

voyage inward and reflects the melancholic yet 

uplifting themes present throughout the rest of 

the record. The video was shot at Motherwell 

Concert Hall by long-time collaborator Donald 

Milne. McGinley had this to say about the new 

song: “To rephrase an aphorism most famously 

used by John Lennon, existence is what happens 

while the human race is busy making other 

plans. This song is kinda about that, but like all 

our songs, we write them intuitively and only 

think about what to say about them afterwards.” 

Even if we weren’t living through extraordinarily 

troubling times, there is nothing quite like a 

Teenage Fanclub album to assuage the mind, 

body and soul, and to reaffirm that all is not lost 

in this world.

THE COMPLETE STONE ROSES :: At The

Roses are one of the UK’s most well-known, 

most seen and most successful tribute bands. 

Selling out venues across the UK and Ireland 

regularly, they have helped to carry on the 

music of one of the UK’s most influential bands – 

The Stone Roses. The Stone Roses played a 

pivotal role in the history of the UK’s indie music 

scene. Famous hits like Fools Gold, I Am The 

Resurrection and I Wanna Be Adored are as

Madchester and the Hacienda, the cultural icons

Amitri frontman Justin Currie commented, “It’s 

been nearly 20 years since we toured with a new 

album, lord knows what took us so long. The 

prospect of sprinkling our set with a few choices 

from ‘Fatal Mistakes’ fills us with the sort of 

excitement that, for some men of our age, might 

call for light medication. We think the adrenaline 

will see us through.” Contemporary heartland 

rock quintet The Byson Family will support on all 

dates. Fronted by former Temperance Movement 

vocalist Phil Campbell, the soft release of the 

band’s debut album ‘Kick The Traces’ went 

straight to #1 on the Independent Breakers 

chart and to #3on the Scottish Albums chart 

when it was released in January. An extended 

version of the album will receive a full release 

this summer.

The story began when three Stornoway Cove’s

music with just the dog and cat watching. After a 

few tunes getting thrown across the room Boydie 

started muttering a few sentences. As he is a 

man of few words no attention was really given 

to him until he shouted “Quick, line me out!” Not 

a second to spare, a set of old broken 

headphones were cable tied to a guitar stand 

and this back fed the muttering into a crackly 

guitar amp and out came a few cobwebs 

followed shortly after with a second that nobody 

had ever heard before. What came next was five 

gallons of lyrics, verse after verse, song after 

song – PEAT & DIESEL WAS BORN!! The songs 

wont make much sense to the average person, 

but the person behind the lyrics isn’t your 

average man so if you have a listen and you can 

relate to it you are a special breed! 


14 NOVEMBER

9.30pm. Gaelic song from the Isle of Skye - 

Skye singer DEIRDRE GRAHAM is joined by 

esteemed musicians ANGUS LYON (Blazin’ 

Fiddles), SEONAID AITKEN (BBC Jazz Nights) 

and JAMES LINDSAY (Breabach) for an 

intimate evening concert. Together they will 

perform a selection of songs from Urranta, 

Deirdre’s long-anticipated debut album, which 

weaves together a rich tapestry from her 

traditional heritage and her broad cultural 

influences to become a powerful celebration of 

Gaelic music. “Deirdre’s singing is always 

assured and has a rare clarity; she makes you 

hear songs in a different way” John Waltham, 

The Living Tradition. The evening promises to be 

a celebration of Gaelic songs and their stories, 

many from Skye, breathing new life into them 

and complemented by the beautiful setting of 

Armadale Castle.

BOB HOLLIS :: At Talking Horse*, Annan - as 

part of D&G Arts Festival. 6-7pm. Dumfries 

based musician and singer; Bob Hollis is 

renowned for his powerhouse vocals. Rising to 

local stardom fronting Ska band More From Jim, 

Bob shows us a different musical side as he 

trades bass guitar for acoustic. His performance, 

an eclectic mix of songs, demonstrates 

versatility and puts his vocal prowess on display.

CATRIONA MCGHIE & JODIE RAE :: At 

Talking Horse*, Annan - as part of D&G Arts 

Festival. 5:30-6:30pm. Catriona McGhie :: 

Catrìona is a 26 year old singer from Stranraer 

who released her debut album, Òran, in 2017. 

Catrìona can regularly be found in The Grapes 

Bar on Friday evenings performing with “The 

Cl’yholers”, or at local Open Mic sessions, where 

she regularly performs a variety of Scottish 

songs. Jodie Rae :: ‘At First Glance’ – a project 

established by Jodie – was selected as part of 

the commissions set out by the Young 

Promoters Group. The project will include a 

combination of her own musical material 

alongside British Sign Language Interpretation. 

Jodie Rae is musician, song-writer and actor 

currently residing in Ayrshire and has performed 

in multiple venues across Scotland, both 

musically and theatrically. Most recently, she 

was selected as a song-writing mentee for the 

Dumfries Music Conference Futures programme 

and utilised this to develop her musical identity 

as a song-writer. 


25 JULY 

KATE KYLE :: At Talking Horse*, Annan - as 

part of D&G Arts Festival. 4-5pm. Shortlisted for 

BBC Scotland Singer/Songwriter 2019, 19 year 

old Kate Kyle has recently released her 2nd EP 

“Without Warning”. With her strong soulful 

country vocals, Kate performs locally and 

nationally including events such as, Millport 

Country Music Festival and Celtic Connections 

among many others. “Kate Kyle sounds like 

she’s come right out of Nashville….one of the 

regions finest performers” – Bruce McKenzie 

D&G Life Magazine February 2021. Kate Kyle is 

also performing with Sarah Law at the Talking 

Horse in Dumfries on Saturday 24 July at 

2.30pm.

DAVE ARCARI :: (POSTPONED! - Being

Arcari’s alt.blues sounds owe as much to trash 

country, punk and rockabilly as they do pre-war 

Delta blues and have been showcased via nine 

internationally-acclaimed solo CD releases. 

Arcari's new album – Live at Memorial Hall – 

recorded at a venue close to his home on the 

eastern shores of Loch Lomond, Scotland, was 

released on 1 September 2017 on Buzz Records. 

Dave’s hard-hitting gravel-laden vocals and 

slashing bottleneck steel guitar make for an 

aggressive, dynamic blues-based sound that 

owes as much to punk, rockabilly and trash 

country as pre-war Delta blues.

industry’s game. A pioneering spirit has been at

RODDY WOOMBLE (Idlewild) :: At MacArts, 

Galashiels. 8pm, tickets £17.50. Known for his 

enigmatic lyrics, warm baritone voice and 

consummate gift for a tune, Roddy has released 

five solo albums to date - 'My Secret Is My 

Silence' (2006), ‘Before The Ruin’ (2008, with 

Kris Drever and John McCusker), 'The 

Impossible Song & Other Songs' (2011), 'Listen 

To Keep' (2013), and ‘The Deluder’ (2017). For 

the past two decades Roddy has also been the 

frontman of much loved Scottish alternative rock 

band Idlewild, releasing eight studio albums, 

and touring worldwide as a headline act, but 

also in support to R.E.M., Pearl Jam and U2 

amongst others. 


12 OCTOBER 

JOESEF :: At The Cluny, Newcastle. Glasgow’s 

rising star Joesef's latest release, the Late To 

The Party EP, features gorgeous, stripped-back 

takes on three of his early releases, Loverboy, 

Limbo and Does It Make You Feel Good. Much 

more news coming soon and you can also see 

Joesef at Glasgow's TRNSMT Festival in 

September and on tour in October. 


26 OCTOBER 

ECHO MACHINE :: At Mac Arts, Galashiels. A 

loud Pop Group from Dundee, and they have 

gigs! "They will be a flippin' hoot!" Echo Machine 

played the King Tut's Summer Nights Festival in 

2019. In addition to performing live, the band 

released a number of singles in their first year 

together, many of which arrived with 

accompanying videos. Debut single St Elmo was 

followed by Vibrations, Chameleon and 

Automatic Love, the latter being reviewed as a 

'bruising, belter of a song'. In addition to these 

videos, Echo Machine collaborated with Thai 

singer Janine Alissa Wollmann on a cover of the 

Billie Eilish track Bad Guy, producing an 

accompanying music video. Their single 

'Headlights' was also well-reviewed, being 

described as 'infectious discowave'. The success 

of the band in 2019 prompted BBC radio 







29 OCTOBER 

WREST with support THE BOY WITH THE 

LION HEAD :: At Mac Arts, Galashiels. Wrest 

are a hotly-tipped Scottish indie folk-rock band, 

making music from Edinburgh's Old Town. Their 

sound combines soaring guitars with layered 

lyrics and heartfelt melodies, reminiscent of 

bands like Frightened Rabbit, The National, 

Idlewild, Snow Patrol and We Were Promised 

Jetpacks. Don’t miss this must-see gig from one 

of Scotland’s most exciting emerging live acts.
