Commodores Welcome

Dear All,

On behalf of the members of Bassenthwaite Sailing Club I would like to

extend a warm welcome to all our visiting sailors, families and friends. It’s

been an incredibly difficult 18 months for everyone and it was touch and

go as to whether Bass Week 2021 would go ahead. The relaxation of Covid

restrictions on 19th July allow us to run the event, but due to the ongoing

pandemic, shore-based activities will be somewhat different to previous years

and everyone onsite will be asked to follow guidance detailed in the welcome pack. Sailing however,

will follow a similar format to previous years. The vast majority of you will be Bass Week veterans,

and for those joining us for the first time, welcome aboard and we hope to ensure that our regatta

week becomes a regular fixture in your diary.

We are very grateful that you are able to join us and we’ll strive to ensure that you have a safe

and enjoyable experience, both on and off the water. Organising Bass Week is a big undertaking

in normal times but, with the uncertainty surrounding Covid, the 2021 event has proved to be

particularly challenging. Bass Week 2021 has been coordinated by Naomi Smith, my predecessor as

Commodore, who together with her Bass Week Team I am immensely grateful.

Phil Smith, our Sailing Secretary, has organised a comprehensive racing programme which, together

with the varied conditions that will no doubt prevail, will hopefully result in close and competitive

racing. We will continue with the revised format for the pursuit races that have been successful

for the last few years (with a moving finishing line). We are delighted to have secured The Lakes

Distillery and CraftInsure.com as our lead sponsors again, together with a range of further

sponsors throughout the week.

Thanks to our Social Secretary, Olivia Leonard, we have an exciting entertainment programme and

details regarding the social activities planned for the week can be found in the welcome pack. We

have moved the majority of social events outside and have earlier finishing times to keep everyone

safe, but I’m sure this will not detract from your enjoyment. Look out for notices on the board for

children’s activities and any other updates.

As with any Sailing Club, we are required to adhere to appropriate regulations for camping and

caravanning and we are working hard to ensure that the letter and spirit of the regulations are

observed whilst still ensuring that all visitors staying on site have an enjoyable and relaxed stay.

I would like to draw everyone’s attention to a few things:

• The gate code for the week is 1278.

• The reception office will be open all day on Friday 30th July and Saturday 31st July and all morning

on Monday 2nd August and Saturday 7th August. If the reception office is not open and you need

some help just ask for one of the Council Members (bar staff will happily point you in the right

direction).
