From 1967 she was pr<strong>in</strong>cipal guest artist of the American<br />
Ballet Theatre. She is renowned for her <strong>in</strong>terpretation<br />
of the romantic roles. Giselle was her greatest success.<br />
She danced it with many great partners like with Rudolf<br />
Nureyev, Vladimir Vasiliev, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Erik<br />
Bruhn. She was director of ballet <strong>in</strong> Naples 1990-91<br />
and <strong>in</strong> Verona 1995-97. She is now director of Balletto<br />
dell’Opera di Roma.<br />
Ornella Vanoni<br />
Ornella Vanoni, is one of the most<br />
credited traditional pop s<strong>in</strong>gers of<br />
Italy. She started her artistic career<br />
<strong>in</strong> 1960 as a theatrical actress under<br />
the direction of Giorgio Strehler<br />
<strong>in</strong> his Piccolo Teatro of Milan. The<br />
folklore and popular songs she re<strong>in</strong>vented <strong>in</strong> her record<strong>in</strong>gs<br />
of this period, especially the ones connected with<br />
organized crime, gave her the nickname cantante della<br />
mala (“Underworld S<strong>in</strong>ger”). Ow<strong>in</strong>g to the songs “Senza<br />
fi ne” and “Che cosa c’è” written for her by G<strong>in</strong>o Paoli, her<br />
popularity rose <strong>in</strong> 1963. In 1976, Vanoni worked with V<strong>in</strong>icius<br />
de Moraes and Toqu<strong>in</strong>ho releas<strong>in</strong>g the hit “La voglia,<br />
la pazzia, l’<strong>in</strong>coscienza e l’allegria”. Dur<strong>in</strong>g the 1980s,<br />
she released “Ricetta di donna”, “Uom<strong>in</strong>i”, and “Ti lascio<br />
una canzone” (a duet with G<strong>in</strong>o Paoli). In addition to her<br />
s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g career, Ornella Vanoni was active <strong>in</strong> other arts,<br />
starr<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> stage and TV shows, movies. Today, she is still<br />
record<strong>in</strong>g and perform<strong>in</strong>g with great success.<br />
Milva<br />
S<strong>in</strong>ger and actress Milva reigned for<br />
decades among the most popular<br />
and far-rang<strong>in</strong>g performers. Born<br />
Maria Ilva Biolcati, at 20 she beat<br />
out more than 7,000 rivals to claim<br />
top honors <strong>in</strong> an <strong>in</strong>fluential talent<br />
showcase, and <strong>in</strong> 1960 cut her debut s<strong>in</strong>gle, a cover<br />
of Édith Piaf’s “Milord”. In 1961 Milva won third place at<br />
the <strong>in</strong>fluential San Remo Music Festival. In 1962 Milva<br />
headl<strong>in</strong>ed 15 Paris’ legendary Olympia Theatre, perform-<br />

<strong>in</strong>g a set of Piaf songs to rapturous reception. Soon after,<br />
she befriended actor and director Giorgio Strehler, who<br />
nurtured her <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> musical theater and encouraged<br />
the expansion of her repertoire, recommend<strong>in</strong>g works<br />
spann<strong>in</strong>g from the Italian resistance movement to Bertolt<br />
Brecht. She rema<strong>in</strong>ed a remarkably eclectic and adventurous<br />
performer <strong>in</strong> the years to follow. In 2009 Milva<br />
received the Legion d’Honneur.<br />
Murat Yak<strong>in</strong><br />
Swiss football coach, former footballer<br />
and member of the Swiss<br />
national football team. Through<br />
his foundation “Murat Yak<strong>in</strong> und<br />
Stamm”, he is actively engaged <strong>in</strong><br />
provid<strong>in</strong>g support to children and<br />
young people <strong>in</strong> need worldwide, and he is a lead<strong>in</strong>g personality<br />
<strong>in</strong> Swiss sport. Dur<strong>in</strong>g the course of his career he<br />
has received 50 caps for the Swiss national football team.<br />
The St. Moritz Award<br />
The trophy for the St. Moritz Award was created by the<br />
artist Arnaldo Pomodoro. It will be assigned every year<br />
at the St. Moritz Award Night.
