3 credits. The “modern world”<br />
understood as a “secular world”<br />
(global, pluralistic, multi-religious,<br />
rational, market-oriented,<br />
and scientific) provides the context<br />
for reasonable Christian faith<br />
based on a divine revelation<br />
which transcends reason. The<br />
course surveys the history <strong>of</strong> this<br />
question, analyzes the changes<br />
that occurred at Vatican II, studies<br />
the various interpretations <strong>of</strong><br />
faith and culture which have prevailed<br />
in Christianity historically<br />
and which recommend themselves<br />
today, defines the current<br />
debates about faith in a secular<br />
age, and concludes with reflections<br />
about the conception <strong>of</strong><br />
God in post-metaphysical categories.<br />
