HIKE TO ALPE GUES
FORMER ALPINE DAIRY FARM
The participants can enjoy a vast panorama
at their feet en route. The hike
leads them past two small mountain
lakes and repeatedly offers picturesque
scenes that not only get the heart of every
hobby photographer beating faster.
It is at its most beautiful in autumn when
the colours become more intense and the
contrasts more defined.
The destination of this hike is a former alpine
dairy farm. Up until the 1950s, butter
and the typical Montafon Sura Kees
were produced here. Nowadays, around
110 cows and their calves spend the summer
here – including those of Monika and
her family. “The Montafon would look
totally different without the alpine economy.
It would be characterised by large
forest landscapes. Some of today’s specific
habitat types wouldn’t even exist,”
says Monika.
