Ferry<br />
The St. Johns River Ferry connects the north and south<br />
ends of Florida State Road A1A in Duval County, linking<br />
Mayport Village and Fort George Island via a pleasant<br />
sail across the St. Johns River.<br />
Hornblower Marine Services operates the ferry service with the<br />
40-car capacity Jean Ribault, a vessel featuring two independent<br />
computerized propulsion systems and modern navigation systems<br />
including radar, DGPS and communication equipment.<br />
In December 2010, the Jean Ribault received regularly scheduled<br />
maintenance, and the ramps at each ferry terminal were<br />
upgraded with new hydraulic-cylinder-based systems to increase<br />
safety, efficiency and reliability.<br />
The ferry operates every day, including holidays, providing an<br />
important link for local residents, employers and tourists.<br />
