JAXPORT in the Community
Although JAXPORT and its maritime partners trade with
countries from around the world, Northeast Florida is
where its employees live and raise families. To enhance
our community, JAXPORT has developed several
programs, including the following:
• JAXPORT supports international business, marketing and
logistics Career Academies at several Northeast Florida high
schools.
• JAXPORT employees serve as mentors for students at R.L.
Brown Elementary School and William M. Raines High School.
• Duval County Public School students enrolled in 12th grade
economics use a JAXPORT sponsored curriculum based in part
on cargo and cruise activity at Jacksonville’s port.
• JAXPORT has launched several arts programs, including
photography exhibits like Women of the Port and Faces of
the Port, as well as The JAXPORT Gallery, a public, visual arts
exhibit located at JAXPORT Headquarters.
• Annually, JAXPORT leads hundreds of port tours and speaker
presentations in the community to talk about the Port’s
economic impact in our region.
• JAXPORT partners with all of the multi-cultural organizations,
businesses, alliances and chambers in Jacksonville.
• JAXPORT supports the Safe Harbor Boys Home, a program
that uses the waterfront as a residential facility and school for
troubled youth, providing a safe alternative home environment
where boys live aboard vessels and learn seamanship skills.
• JAXPORT supports the Employ Florida Banner Center for Logistics
and Distribution, a consortium of community colleges and
universities who have allied to promote logistics and distribution
education, training, and professional development in
Florida.
• JAXPORT serves as a key partner in the International Trade
Certificate Program - Export Series, an export trade training
class for small businesses. Since the program’s inception,
nearly 150 business owners have been trained.
• JAXPORT’s 150 employees contributed more than $20,000
in 2010 to United Way of Northeast Florida and Community
Health Charities.
