Paul Anderson,
JAXPORT CEO
“At JAXPORT
we are going to
win these
challenges.”
Maritime Executive:
Meet JAXPORT CEO
Paul Anderson
After his first two weeks on the job,
JAXPORT CEO Paul Anderson
needed another box of business
cards. Between meetings with
Florida Governor Rick Scott, port tenants,
customers and employees, as well as city,
state and federal officials, he had already
met with more than 500 port stakeholders
to build support for JAXPORT developments
and increase the economic benefits
the seaport brings to Northeast Florida.
The port’s lobbying efforts have already
yielded dividends. In February 2011,
JAXPORT secured $10 million in state
funds for infrastructure refurbishments at
JAXPORT’s Blount Island Marine Terminal.
Anderson is setting a fast pace at the
Port of Jacksonville, and it’s a pace that’s
needed to surpass competing ports in the
race for dollars to deepen the harbor, and
establish JAXPORT as the first U.S. port
of call for ships transiting the expanded
Panama Canal later this decade. While
challenges lie ahead in accomplishing
these goals, Anderson said JAXPORT is not
unique in that regard.
“There are challenges in every port in
this country,” he said. “At JAXPORT, we’re
going to win these challenges. I will lead
our team to do everything possible to
secure funding for port growth and investment.”
Anderson’s background in both the
private and public sector have prepared
him for the task ahead. Anderson served
on the Federal Maritime Commission from
2003-2008 and has held a number of
other high-profile leadership positions in
the public and private sectors during his
30-year career. Most recently, he was a
Senior Fellow of the Transportation and
Infrastructure Committee at the U.S. House
of Representatives and president of the
International Oil Shipping Company based
in Boca Raton, Florida. Anderson spent
10 years with JM Family Enterprises, a
diversified automobile business headquartered
in Deerfield Beach, Fla., and one of
JAXPORT’s tenants. He has also served as
a senior director of Seabulk Marine, Inc. of
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
“His experience in both government
and private business, combined with the
strengths of JAXPORT’s current leadership,
will play a significant role in moving
our port forward,” said JAXPORT Board
Chairman Dave Kulik.
“It is an honor to lead JAXPORT and
be a part of the Jacksonville community,”
Anderson said. “I’m committed to
supporting our partners as we compete in
the global market and continue to grow
our port and create new jobs.”
