Economic Impact
With more than 65,000 jobs in Northeast Florida
related to port activity, Jacksonville’s dynamic
seaport is one of Northeast Florida’s largest
economic engines.
Approximately 9,000 of these positions are held by employees
of private firms operating directly at port terminals. An additional
13,000 jobs are indirect and induced jobs resulting from
port activity, bringing the port-dependent job total to more than
22,000.
In addition to port-dependent jobs, about 43,000 regional
jobs are related to cargo activity in the Port of Jacksonville; these
are jobs within the region’s manufacturing, retail, wholesale and
distribution industries.
Alongside the employment impact, Jacksonville’s seaport generates
almost $19 billion in economic impact annually, including
personal wages paid by port-related companies, business revenue,
U.S. Customs revenue, local purchases by businesses and state
and local taxes.
The cruise industry also provides significant benefits to Northeast
Florida. Cruise-related business supports more than 460 jobs
and more than $67 million in annual economic impact.
JAXPORT’s vision is to be a major economic engine for Northeast
Florida, and the port continues to realize that vision with the development
and opening of the new container terminals at Dames
Point. The TraPac Container Terminal and the Hanjin Container
Terminal will eventually create up to 11,000 new jobs as the facilities
reach full throughput capacity over the next decade. Today,
