Aloha Diner and Bar. 27 hungry diners in the Frugal Freddy
club invaded Aloha on this evening at our usual 6pm meeting
time, we were greeted by Anusorn who is both the owner, supervising
creative chef and mix-ologist for the large variety of
Polynesian drinks for 1, 2, or 4 people in a variety of glasses and
bowls decorated with fruit and flowers and as many straws as
you want. These drinks not only quenched our thirst but were
very easy on our wallet as Anusorn let us know that he has a
European mind set because he started out first owning a similar
restaurant in Germany before coming back to Thailand 12 years
ago to start Aloha. If the economy is slow unlike many Thai’s
his secret to success is to offer better value for the money and
it is totally safe to say we all walked out happy with this way of
promoting business. I had confirmation from 14 members to
save a seat for them at the main table at 6pm and not only did
all 14 show up on time but 13 more came. The restaurant easily
seats 65 people. No problem finding tables close to the main
table. Decorated in a Polynesian theme with a small stage for
nightly entertainment, it is a very cordial atmosphere. Located
on 2 nd Road, park across the street at the Royal Garden Shopping
center (B40), or take any of the Baht busses that run on 2 nd road
and avoid any parking problems.
We chose to visit this particular evening because Anusorn now
has a daily special set menu (B250) that is featured outside on
the “Weekly set menu board” It changes every day of the week
but remains the same for a calendar month. A number of us ate
there earlier in the month and had the BBQ Brochette that has
a nice size Filet of beef, pork, chicken, sausage and bacon. All
pieces were cooked perfectly and included steamed vegetable
and your choice of potatoes (baked, fried or mashed).
We all noticed coming up on Wednesday was a rock lobster
thermidor special with 2 small lobsters, choice of potatoes and
steamed vegetables. There is nowhere else in Pattaya where you
can get a lobster dinner for B250 and 2 for 1 tropical cocktails,
priced from only B110. I spread the word through the Frugal
Freddy email grapevine and the response was immediate. I notified
Anusorn to have enough lobster for 20 of us and staff to take
good care of us and he
did. He did not run out of
Lobster nor out of alcohol
so it was a very successful
evening.

recently at Goose’s Fish
and Chips (a full supporter
of Frugal Freddy)
restaurant on 2 nd road
between Soi 7 & 8. They
can seat over 30 people
inside and another dozen
outside. It is nicely decorated
with waitresses
who do understand English.

comes deep fried in a light batter
and is of various weights. All meals
include your choice of potatoes
and a salad. Rita choice the hand
cut fries where I chose the mashed,
plus a salad and a generous portion
of tartar sauce. In addition they have
a Gammon dinner (B195), liver and
bacon (B245) and others too numerous
to mention like Chicken Burger
& Hamburger (B195) and couple
of salads for the vegetarians in the
group.
We started with the soups Tomato
and New England Clam Chowder,
both very good, then appetizers. I
had the Prawn cocktail (B145) which
was really a prawn salad with lettuce,
tomato, green onions, olives
in hundred Island dressing. The 8
shrimp were plump, fresh and delicious.
Rita choice the Chicken dippers,
a large plateful of moist strips
of chicken breast, battered and served with a dipping sauce,
don’t know what it was but it was a big bowl and empty when
we finished.
For drinks Rita had her usual Coke (B40) and I had a small caraf
of red wine (B145) and they do have a full bar of beer and liquor
at reasonable prices. After our soups and appetizers and main
course we were too stuffed to have dessert but were tempted to

try the fresh strawberries and banana sundae (B120) but since
Rita was too full to eat her small portion of Pacific Dory we passed
on dessert and I instead had the Irish Coffee (B120) made with
Jameson’s and a head of cream like a good glass of Guinness. A
great way to finish off an excellent meal.
PCEC has many special interest groups to serve the members, one
of the most popular is the Frugal Freddy dinin g out group meeting
weekly. They currently meet each Monday and Tuesday and in 2012
will add Wednesdays. Meeting
times are always 6pm and are
at restaurants that Hawaii Bob
has determined give good value
for the Baht with some of them
even offering a special discount
that evening. With the value
of foreign currency shrinking
against the baht and Thai inflation
hitting us in the wallet club
member seek out value dining.
