Class Comments:

Incredible approachability on the young Nero’s. Balanced and structured with lovely lift. The Tempranillo

entries show that 2020 was not an excellent year for the variety, with the fruit looking a little tired

already. Lovely class of well handled fruit driven wines. Some lovely tannin profiles really drove the higher

pointed wines. Restraint is the optimum word with making these beautiful Mediterranean varieties

and we saw this throughout the class. An exciting one to judge. If any region can do Mediterranean it’s

McLaren Vale.

Judges: Tim Dolan, Riley Harrison, Alex Mackenzie, Ash Sinclair, Henry Slattery

Class Comments:

Three standout varieties in the class were a real shining light, generating lots of discussion. Best

wines showed their true varietal characters with careful, considered winemaking. Underripe / overripe

characters were quite apparent in the lesser wines.
