JULY 2021 | SUMMER EDITION
“to open minds, creating opportunities for all to believe in themselves, achieve their potential and develop
the skills needed to succeed and enjoy life”
AMBITIOUS FUTURES
Welcome to the Summer term’s newsletter
Welcome to the summer edition of our stakeholder newsletter. It is hard to believe that
the 2020/21 academic year is at an end and what a year it has been!
I would like to start by thanking all of our incredible staff for their hard work and
commitment. They have taken every challenge and turned it into a positive. In school, and at
home, they have delivered a high quality education and made the curriculum broad and
balanced for our children.
I would also like to say a huge thank you to all of our parents, carers and other adults who
have supported our schools this year. You have been patient and shown perseverance in
helping to ensure children have received a quality education, often while working from home
yourself. Despite the difficulties of this term with various bubbles popping and a number of staff struck down by Covid or
isolating, our schools have continued to provide children with a wide range of opportunities. Some of my personal
favourites this term have been Staff Awards Evening, a number of Proms across all four schools, Homework Showcase at
Bramble, Art Exhibition at the Harlow Academy, amazing extra-curricular activities at Brunts and Beech achievement
assemblies. Some of these are covered in this newsletter.
On behalf of everyone in our Trust, I hope you have a lovely summer and the sun shines on you wherever you are planning
on spending the school holiday. I look forward to seeing you safe and well in the new term.
A New Face at The Bramble Academy
This term, Natalie Aveyard (formally Deputy Head at The Brunts Academy) commenced her new
role as Principal at The Bramble Academy. Among many other duties, Natalie had the
opportunity to present her first Headteacher Award and share a Hot Chocolate with Josh F,
Alfie C and Maisie S from bubble 3.
Good Deed
from a
student at
The Beech
Academy
During a visit
offsite, a Year 9 student from The
Beech Academy, Shide, found a
mobile phone on the floor and
decided that he needed to take it in
to the café so that whoever lost it
would be able to claim it. Two
women walked past asking if
anyone had seen a phone and Shide was
able to return the phone to the owner.
The women were so thankful and
delighted with Shide’s integrity and
politeness that they bought the whole
class cold drinks and ice-cream. Well
done, Shide! You have represented The
Beech Academy well.
Harlow Music
Makers
Harlow students
work with a music
producer/
recording artist
each week. Over
the years, he has
built up a range of different accessible equipment
that the pupils can use to manipulate sounds. The
pupils can then control the sounds using a range
of controllers, keyboards, buttons and sliders.
They have developed understanding of tempo
and dynamics and they can recognise whether a chord is major or minor.
They have then been able to create layers of music using ostinatos and
sequences to create pieces of music together. They can select which
instrument they would like to control and they can also choose different
drum beats to go along with it. The new Class 7 had their first session
this week and they all had a go at trying all of the different controllers and
sounds. Everybody absolutely loved it and demonstrated great potential
for becoming future recording artists. The students have also started
recording their own music!

Resilience and Ambition Demonstrated by a Student at The Beech
Academy
The Evolve Trust are delighted to celebrate amazing attendance from one of our students at The
Beech Academy.
Liam-Jay, a student who started at The Beech Academy in September 2015, has shown amazing
ambition and resilience throughout his time at school. After celebrating at the end of year 7 for gaining the 100%
attendance award, the ambition kicked in and Liam-Jay decided he would aim for 2 years 100% and he was successful. As
the years have gone by, the ambition has become greater and Liam-Jay’s resilience
has been something for us all to be proud of. Liam-Jay leaves us with the huge
achievement of 100% attendance for 7 years!
This is something that his peers look up to him for, and he is well known in school
for his fabulous achievement. We are so proud of Liam-Jay, and we are sure that this
work ethnic and the willingness to show up every day, even when it is difficult, will
continue throughout his adult life.
Claire-Marie Cuthbert, CEO of The Evolve Trust, said “we are so proud of Liam-Jay
and this fantastic achievement. Our values of Ambition, Integrity, Inclusivity,
Resilience and Endeavour are the foundations of the Evolve Trust, and Liam-Jay has
shown great ambition and resilience whilst at
Beech – well done!”.
Extra-Curricular
at Brunts
Over the last few
weeks the Enrich &
Equip Programme has been launched at
The Brunts Academy. The programme
includes a range of activities including
boxing, Yoga and MMA robotics, rock
climbing (and more!!) and students
have really embraced new challenges
and experiences. Staff at the Academy
have
produced
an amazing
video to showcase what is on
offer, which you can watch here:
The Evolve Trust Community Initiatives
We are so pleased that we have been able to run a socially
distanced baby massage group at the Bramble Academy.
Our qualified baby massage practitioner, Elvi Duff, has
worked on different
areas of baby massage for
the last 5 weeks which
our mums and grandmas
have enjoyed. Look out
for our next community
initiative which will be
communicated at the
start of the next term.
Book appeal for The Harlow Academy to help
create new library
Mansfield businesswoman and Member of the Evolve Trust, Elizabeth Orridge (pictured
right), launched an appeal to help Harlow fill their library shelves to start a new chapter.
Elizabeth, who runs her award-winning photography business from a studio in Pecks Hill,
Mansfield, recently went on a tour of The Harlow Academy.
A lot of work had gone into creating a fantastic learning environment all based around
novel study. An amazing library has been created which is on a Jungle Book theme,
however Elizabeth noticed that the academy’s new library was short on books.
Elizabeth said: “It’s a wonderful place to be and the staff do some great work to help their pupils develop”. Claire-
Marie Cuthbert, CEO of The Evolve Trust, added “we all work really hard to ensure the very best for the children we
serve, providing opportunities which they would not ordinarily have access to. The students of Harlow love their new
learning environments and they are now encouraged to be more mobile so that they can enjoy the interactive
displays”.
Elizabeth said “I was inspired by all that was going on and wanted to help in some way. The library needs suitable books
and so asked families for any books that they no longer use. Elizabeth didn’t stop there, she also asked businesses if
they were able to make a financial donation so that the school could go and buy some books. It was amazing that
Persimmon Builders contributed £1000.00 to this initiative.
Claire-Marie said: “Reading and listening to stories can help children in so many ways, so this is a fabulous contribution
by Persimmon and well done to Elizabeth for making this happen.
Foyle Foundation
We are also pleased to announce that The Evolve Trust has been successful in a bid for library books for The Harlow
Academy. This will enable the Trust to purchase more books for the new library up to the value of £4,000. This is amazing
news and will means the young people of Harlow can enjoy lots of new books.
The Evolve Trust Contribution to the System
The BBC visits the Trust
A report was published this week, for which, Claire-Marie contributed as a witness.
The report centred around ‘Disadvantaged White Working Class Pupils’ and highlights areas of concern in education.
The BBC contacted the Trust late on Friday, and asked Claire to contribute to a piece, centred around what we are doing
at the Trust to bridge the gap. Claire-Marie and Students at Brunts and Bramble were interviewed and positively
represented their academy and the Trust. You can view the report here: https://youtu.be/JfIiN8q8f5w
A huge thank you to the BBC for visiting the Evolve Trust on the 21st June to see how we are serving our community.
Make over of the Bramble Academy Learning Environment
Claire-Marie and the Exec Team have been busy creating a Marvellous Mansfield corridor in The Bramble Academy.
Here are some pics to show you the amazing learning environment which has been created. The display shows you
the timeline from the Romans occupying Mansfield, through to
limestone quarrying and the growth of the textile industry right through to the Miners
strike in 1984.
The Evolve Trust have adopted a curiosity approach to learning for EYFS. The Curiosity
Approach is an approach to early years learning that draws from various philosophies
centred around the natural curiosity of children in early years. This approach promotes
awe and wonder to learning and aims to put children at the very centre of their own
development and education, creating ‘thinkers and doers’, encouraging them to create
their own toys to play with while simultaneously learning about the world they will
eventually venture into. All modern toys and technology are replaced with everyday
items to encourage children’s natural curiosity and eagerness to explore and create.
Central to the approach is the
creation of a ‘home from home’
experience which places a high
emphasis on creating a calm, secure
and welcoming environment where
children feel supported to become
confident, competent and inquisitive
learners with each child having a
sense of belonging and well-being.
Hope you enjoy the pictures over
the next couple of pages.
Best Practice Visit
to the Fulbridge
Academy
Fulbridge Academy, a
primary school in
Peterborough hosted a
best practice visit for
members of the Exec
Team to inform our ideas
of alternative learning
environments. Here are
a few pics to show their
spectacular displays.
EYFS Learning Environment in Bramble
Here are some more pics from our recently
renovated learning environment in The Bramble
Academy based on a curiosity approach.
Country House
Hallway
We have re-designed our
learning environment
corridor to EYFS in Bramble
which now looks like a
country house hallway. The
Children absolutely love
their new environments.
EYFS Gets Curious
Reception classroom has also received a make-over in line
with our curiosity approach to learning. This includes a
garden area, reading corner, living room, dressing up area and
construction area. As you can see no plastic toys in sight.
What’s Happening at The Beech Academy
Resilience and Ambition
Demonstrated by a Student
At the Beech academy
Bobby, a Year 13 student from The Beech
Academy, has been attending work experience at County Battery in
Kirkby in Ashfield.
Bobby has done an amazing job and due to his endeavour and ambition
has secured a 3 year apprenticeship.
Well done Bobby we are so proud of you and your achievement.
Ground to Grub at Beech
It’s the time of year to reap the rewards from our sensory garden here at The Beech
Academy. KS3 students have been using horticulture lessons to nurture the seed to
plant ready for harvesting and creative students have been learning about farm to fork
linked to their novel study ‘the kapok tree’. Students have used the rhubarb and apples
to make a mouth-watering crunchy crumble, they have used the spinach and spring
onions to make a healthy pizza from scratch, including 3 of their 5 a day. This has given
the young learners knowledge and experiences to go and grow produce at home for
their meals at home.
Harlow Challenge
This week’s
challenge
involved
students
collecting photos of themselves and
their families, exhibiting our core values.
The winner of the challenge this week
was Ben, who finds it incredibly hard to
have his hair cut. HOWEVER, despite
that, Ben presented staff with a photo of himself at the barbers with a HUGE
smile on his face—Demonstrating a huge amount of resilience.
Claire-Marie and Mabel presented Sam with his certificate, and him and his
family were very proud of his achievement.
Functions in the Brain
Topic
In psychology this week at The Brunts
Academy, the year 12 students have been learning about localisation of
functions in the brain - what parts of the brain are responsible for our actions,
our language etc. To help them do this they had an information hunt and had to
create a brain hat with all the information on.
Raft Building for Beech Students
At the end of Summer 1 the year 9 at Beech Academy took part in a raft building activity at the Mill
Adventure Base in Sutton. This activity linked to their novel study book of Floodlands. They had to
learn the intricacies of teamwork, leadership, planning and problem solving, but more importantly
how not to get wet!
The year 9 worked together to design and build their raft out of barrels, logs and ropes and then take
to the water to test out their raft. Once their raft floated they then had to navigate a course around the Kingsmill
reservoir and then rescue a student that was trapped on a run-away canoe.
All of year 9 thoroughly enjoyed every part the day because not only did they all fall off the raft at least once while out
on the reservoir, they finished off the day rock climbing indoors.
Novel Study - Year 5
This term the year 5 pupils of
The Bramble Academy have
been studying the novel Owen
and the Soldier written by Lisa
Thompson, as part of their novel studies.
It's a story based on the relationship
between a young boy named Owen and a
crumbling stone soldier in the local park. The
children have learnt about World War 1 and
have visited the War Memorial in Mansfield
Woodhouse, St Edmund.Our novel study
approach raises writing and reading
standards through high quality novels which
are explored through using immersive
learning experiences. The Year 5 classroom
Nicola Riley, Year 5 teacher contacted the author of Owen and the soldier, has been decorated in the theme of the first
attaching some lovely poems written by pupils, which were inspired by the World War, with its very own memorial and
novel.
park bench where the children can read just
like Owen in the story – it is a truly
immersive learning environment which the
children love.
The Bramble
Academy’s
curriculum
embraces the
community in
which it is
situated,
recognising
local history,
heritage and
geographical
and this can
be seen in the
recently
decorated
Marvellous
Mansfield
corridor which shows a timeline of life in Mansfield from the Romans right through
to the Miners’ Strike of 1984.
A Special Mention to Alice Sykes - Mansfield and
Ashfield 2020 Award Finalist
Congratulations!
Following the judges panel, Alice has been selected as a finalist
for the Mansfield & Ashfield 2020 Business Awards 2021 in
the Young Apprentice of the Year Category.
The Evolve Trust would like to recognise the achievement and commitment of Alice Sykes,
who is the Trust Finance Assistant. Claire Patterson, Finance & Payroll Manager for the
Trust, says “She has such a special personality, caring, loyal and trustworthy, continually
working hard always with values in mind.’ Alice continually shows examples of living the
Trust values.
What’s Happening at Harlow
Harlow Students Reach New Heights
Nine pupils from the Harlow Academy took part in the National Citizenship
Award w/c 12th July. This is a challenging programme of activities, especially
for young people with physical disabilities. Our young people have overcome
many obstacles to take part in climbing, zip lining, orienteering etc. Our
young
people
have
demonstrated the Trust values in how they have
faced these challenged by taking part and achieving
success in activities they otherwise may never have
had the opportunity to access.
A huge well done to Majella Robinson who makes all
this happen for our young people. If this wasn't
enough Majella is also organising an off-site visit and
end of term leavers' celebrations, which will all take
place before the end of term! All this and she never
stops smiling!
Sunflower Competition
When an unexpected donation of over 100 packets of sunflower seeds
and seed trays arrived in school from
Morrisons, a competition was set
across the school. The aim to grow the
highest sunflower. Pupils have since
been nurturing their seedlings,
watering, making sure they have
sunlight and protecting from sudden
frosts. As we approach the end of
term excitement is building. Who will
be champion sunflower grower?
Stunning Songs at Harlow
The Harlow Academy hold weekly assemblies where a class challenge is set for the
week. For one of the assemblies, classes were tasked with writing a song about our
Trust values themed around the Eurovision Song Contest, with
each class who performed live to the school (via Teams).
There was a panel of judges, presenters and a translator, who
translated the announcements in to French throughout the
assembly.
The panel, which included Claire-Marie, Dawn, Alex, Barbara and
Julie Horton, had a really hard decision on their hands choosing
the top 3 performances, as all of the song
were amazing!
Harlow Summer Art Exhibition
Can’t get to London this year for The Royal Academy
of Art Summer Exhibition?
No need to worry, Harlow held their very first Summer Exhibition right here at
Harlow Academy!! Pupils at Harlow have been working in groups and individually
on a variety of artwork to submit to our Summer exhibition. The standard has been
set very high with a great range of media and techniques used. Inspiration for pieces
has come from a variety of places; ‘The Natural World’, ‘Plastic Pollution’ and novel
study texts: ‘Simon Sock’ and ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ to name just a few.
It has been such a great opportunity for everyone to see the collection of art from
across the school curated in our outdoor gallery space. Our amazing pupils have
loved sharing their work; celebrating their talents and the opportunity art gives
them to express themselves!
Professional Learning and Development
At Evolve, we know it is vital that we understand how
education evidence can underpin school improvement. We are committed to
ensuring that all schools have access to the resources, training and support they
need to improve teaching practice. Our newly created Research Library in The
Harlow Academy supports this effort. The Trust acts as a training hub to support
our academies in understanding the evidence in key areas - and how it can be used
effectively as part of our programme of professional development for teachers and
leaders.
The Evolve Trust Library is constantly growing with new and exciting titles. Books
old and new can be found and used to develop new thinking, ideas and pedagogy.
Staff across our Trust have already accessed this extensive collection and have since
documented their thoughts following mini action research projects. In addition, we
record how reading influences practice so that we can share best practice across
The Trust!
Freedom Factory
Project
Year 7 pupils at The Brunts Academy performed their own songs
and choreography for a remote audience as part of a project being
run in school with the Freedom Factory.
The performance took place in the Performance Centre at Brunts, in front of
empty seats and a camera, which was broadcasting the event to parents and
staff via Zoom. The songs were written around themes of mental health and
getting through lockdown. The students did extremely well and we are very
proud that they had the resilience and endeavour to perform to an audience
1:1 With Industry Professional
A huge well done to Danny Morton, in
Year 12, who was 1 of only 3 people to be
selected to have a 1-1 with industry
professional make-up artist Susana Mota.
Danny gained an insight into the make-up
industry from a ‘behind the scenes’
perspective, within tv, film and fashion
editorial. Danny was offered advice on
how to access this industry, Post-18, and
has been offered work experience on set
in London!
Double,
Double, Toil
and Trouble
Year 6 pupils from The Bramble
Academy had a brilliant workshop
at Brunts making potions linked
to their novel study "Macbeth".
Thank you to colleagues at The
Brunts Academy for facilitating
this workshop.
Bramble Students Step Back in Time
Pen Licenses at Bramble
As part of this term’s pledge, Year 4 at The Bramble Academy had a great day out
visiting Wollaton Hall. The trip allowed the children to explore how an original
Tudor kitchen was used to prepare and store food. Mistress Peabody did a great
job of looking after us all and even helped us make our
very own pomanders from the many spices available.
Learning about the Burgess Model at
Brunts
More and more young people are
demonstrating scholastic excellence and
gaining their pen licence at The Bramble
Academy. Pen licenses are awarded to pupils
once their writing and presentation in exercise
books reach a certain standard. A massive
congratulations to all our pupils who have
obtained their new pen licences this term.
Pictured below is Junior who is very excited
to start using pen in his books.
Year 10 Geography students at The Brunts
Academy have been using Lego to aid their
understanding of The Burgess Model . The model
concludes that city land-use can be identified as
a series of concentric rings around the Central
Business District.
Chatting Chatta at The Beech Academy
KS3 and Nurture classes have enjoyed interactive novel study lessons, creating
Chatta boards with the founder of Chatta himself, Chris Williams! We are very
grateful to Chris for his time and support and we are looking forward to using
Chatta more in lessons to support with progress in oracy, vocabulary use,
writing, memory and wider learning. More details about
Chatta@Home and family Chatta can be found HERE
Transition Day for new Year 7 Students
On Friday 9th July, The Brunts Academy welcomed 140 students onto site for their Year 7 transition event. Sadly due to COVID
restrictions, students had to remain in their primary school bubbles, but this didn’t stop their fun. During the morning students
competed in athletics events, some of which displayed fantastic sporting prowess then after lunch there were
games of rounders and quick cricket for all to get involved in. Our Year 10 Sports Leaders who ran the activities did an amazing
job and made sure all students had opportunities to take part. The sun shone brightly and all students thoroughly enjoyed their
day, meeting their tutors for September and at least getting a socially distanced glance at some of their new classmates.
Mansfield Mural Project
Year 7 students at The Brunts Academy have produced an amazing concept for a mural painting
that will be on display on Leeming Street in Mansfield. In partnership with Mansfield Townscape,
students have researched into the history of the old Boots building, which then became
discount clothing retailer Dickie Dirts and used this information in their design. Work on the
mural has started and they are hoping to have completed the piece by the end of term – be
sure to have a walk into town and watch it progress as the weeks go on!
Alumni Success
– 100%
ambition!
I'm Charlotte
Cropper, a recent
BA (Hons) Media
and Performance
graduate from the
University of Salford, recipient of the
prestigious Dean's Award, finalist in the
Chortle Student Comedy Awards and
if you haven't guessed already, a big
comedy nerd. My time at Brunts Sixth
Form from 2016-18 set me up
fantastically for my University
adventures, where I've been able to
perform at the Edinburgh Fringe,
produce my own shows and champion
other students to create and
collaborate too. I'm so grateful to all
the Sixth Form staff at Brunts for their
support and encouragement during my
studies, I would definitely not have
been as prepared for University or as
passionate about the media and
comedy industries without their
preliminary guidance and teaching
about the production and performance
of The Arts!
Year 11 Summer School
The Year 11 Summer School was very well attended
with over 80 students attending. Staff provided a range
of exciting taster lessons in A level subjects which were
very well received by the students. There
was a very engaged debate
about mind/body
dualism in a
Philosophy & Ethics
taster lesson. Budding
future Chemistry
students can be seen
here, making Tollens'
reagent, a chemical used
to apply a silver mirror to
glassware.
Childcare
Practical at
Brunts
Year 10 Childcare
students at The
Brunts Academy
had the chance to
apply their
understanding
about care
routines and
practised safe nappy changing as part of their
learning. They thoroughly enjoyed this
practical, shared their personal experiences of
babies and engagement in the task and the
lesson was fantastic throughout!
Connect The Classroom Funding
The DfE has offered specialist funding for eligible schools to install brand new IT infrastructure
that aims to set the foundations to take IT to the next level in order to make a real impact to
teaching and learning. Following a range of applications and site audits the Trust has secured
substantial funding to improve switching, Wifi and associated cabling across the Trust. Ergo will be
supporting us with getting hardware installed and it
will all be in place by February! A huge thank you to
all involved in securing
this funding which will
make such a huge
difference to the
network, for all staff
and our students.
Year 5 and Year 6
children here at The
Bramble Academy
started their swimming
block as part of their
curriculum this half
term and so far we have
seen some great
improvements in
everyone. The first
session involved a swimming test to assess children’s
current levels, but since then they have all been placed
in ability groups and we have seen every child’s
confidence increase with some children moving from
the shallow end to the deep end in just 3 sessions! All
children have done amazingly well and are really
enjoying their swimming lessons.
CAD At Brunts
Year 8s at Brunts
have been getting to
grips with CAD
software to help
prepare for the 3D
Printing Club which
will be starting in
September
Smart As A Carrot Award
This term The Harlow Academy
introduced this award to encourage pupils to wear and
take pride in their uniform and appearance. This had a
fantastic impact on the number of pupils wearing
uniform. One pupil even asked for the casts on his
legs to be changed from red to blue to match his
uniform colours. At the end of the term the pupil
with the most carrot awards will receive a special
reward. The challenge has been set! The pupils have
also asked, if all the pupils in class wear their uniform
everyday can they have a class reward at the end of term.

Bramble
Pledges
Continue
Pupils at The
Bramble Academy have
been out and about this
week as part of their
amazing programme of
pledges.
Year 4 visited
Brackenhurst where they
tried their hand at pond
dipping, Year 5 have been
to Sheffield Cathedral
where the awe and
wonder on their faces was
priceless and Year 6 took to
the hills and successfully
climbed Mam Tor!
Pledges haven't been able to
go ahead as planned due to
Covid-19 restrictions, but
everyone is over the moon
that these amazing
experiences are back.
Engagement in
Practical Learning
The Leadership Team at
The Beech Academy have
spent some time in classes
to assess the levels of engagement
across the academy. Here are some
pictures of students enjoying
practical learning in science and
music, and a mature discussion
about Black Lives Matter in PSHE.
School Pride Gala
Brunts have committed to take part in an event aimed
at boosting the confidence of LGBTQ+ pupils in
Mansfield and Ashfield
schools which is set to go
ahead this summer.
School Pride is earmarked
for Friday, July 9 at Larwood
Park in Sutton, the home of
Ashfield Rugby Club. Every
school is making its own
Pride flag for the gala, which
will also feature a flashmob,
craft stalls, art workshops, a
catwalk show, music and
much more. To see the Chad
Brinsley Carnival Queen
Danielle, a pupil at The Harlow Academy, has
been chosen to be Brinsley Carnival Queen this
year. The carnival is being held at Brinsley Park on the 8th of August,
where there will be a fun fair, stalls and entertainment. It promises
to be a great family afternoon out, and Danielle’s mum said it would
be great to see staff at the event as well.
Student signed by Grimsby Town
Jaz Goundry, A former student of The Brunts Academy, has signed his first professional contract this week.
Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce that academy graduate, Jaz has put pen to paper on his first
professional contract, signing a one-year-deal with the club. The seventeen year old joined the Mariners' Academy
in July 2019 and is the latest graduate from the
Grimsby Town Academy to join the first-team squad
on professional terms.
Kenzie Cleans Up!
During this week’s Forest Schools
adventure at The Beech Academy, we had
the pleasure of going along for a hike around Vicar
Water. Just before we left, Kenzie had started to
pick up all of the litter from in and around the new
park, to which there was quite a lot! We had a
good moan about why people continue to drop
their litter, and why they can’t walk 2 metres to the
recycling bins provided by the local council. We’re
really proud of Kenzie and his care for the natural
environment that we all share.
Bramble Celebration
The Bramble Academy hosted
two celebration assemblies
for their young people.
Certificates and pin badges
were awarded to a huge
amount of pupils for amazing
achievement, spelling, reading,
attendance, Timetable
Rockstars and alignment to
our Values!
The Impact of Harlow’s
Learning Environment
The Executive Team have worked tirelessly
to create immersive environments throughout all of the corridors
at The Harlow Academy.
The newly decorated corridors have transformed the experience
of moving through school for the children, who excitedly point
out and speak to Willy Wonka, listen to the story of the Jungle
Book and stroke the fur of animals as they move past. They have
been challenged to seek out aspects of the environments as part
of their physical development for example counting golden tickets
or walking like an astronaut on the moon.
The transformation was showcased to colleagues
from The Bramble Academy and also the Trust
Directors, and feedback from these visits was very
positive - we are all so proud to be part of The
Evolve Trust.
Bramble Pledges Proceed
On Tuesday 11th May, Year 6 pupils at The Bramble
Academy went to The Mill Adventure Base to take
part in a raft building adventure.
This is one of the Year 6 pledges linked to their book 'Floodland'.
In the book, the sea levels have risen dangerously and there is very
little land left. The protagonist, Zoe, is the only person to have a
boat.
Our pupils found out first hand what it was like to row on the
water (and one or two also found out what it was like to fall in!).
They were an absolute credit to The Bramble Academy and the
Trust and we are all incredibly proud of them!
Positive Mental Health Awareness Week
This year's theme for Positive Mental Health Awareness Week is 'Connecting with
Nature'. On Tuesday morning, pupils at The Beech Academy took part in an assembly
to learn about the importance of mental health, and strategies for improving our
mental fitness.
All pupils received a giant sunflower seed to plant at home.
We would love to see photographs of the seeds as they are
planted, and as the
sunflowers grow.
Architecture Studies at Brunts
This year at The Brunts Academy, we
have had an exciting new route of
experimentation for students with the
study of architecture. We have seen
both KS3 students studying the subject
in the architecture club and also seen
6th formers take on the topic as an area
of study. This has led to
some great architectural
designs by students,
which can be used in
their portfolios for future
university interviews.
It is really great to see
this type of art grow in
the academy, showing
how the learning from
their lessons can link to
future careers.
Ambitious Futures!
A huge congratulations to two Year
12 students at The Brunts Academy,
following their successful interview.
Alishba W and Lucien P have both
secured internships with the Evolve
Trust within the Finance
Department until the end of
Summer Term.
Evolve Foundation Community
Shop
Following a period of closure due to national
lock down restrictions, the Evolve Foundation charity shop, which is
based in The Bramble Academy, re-opened for the majority of this term.
Scarlett Callaghan has very kindly managed the running of the shop.
A HUGE thank you to Scarlet for her hard work and
dedication.
The charity shop, which was set up to serve the needs of some of the
most vulnerable families within our community, will be open in the new
term on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons,
If you have an hour spare on Tuesday and Thursday and would like to support the community shop. Or if you have any
donations, please do let us know as we would appreciate any help you can give. Please let Dawn know at
dpare@evolvetrust.org.
Donation from Morrisons
Sarah & Donna who are Community Champions from
Morrisons in Sutton in Ashfield arrived unexpectedly to
The Harlow Academy to donate three huge bags of wild
bird food & over 100 packets of sunflower seeds. So,
this term, as part of our whole school challenge, which
is linked to mental health week, all the children will be
planting seeds & making bird feeders. They will also be
making thank you cards & sending photographs of their
work to Sarah & Donna.
Community Project
Nurture 3 at The Beech Academy have worked
together as a group to plan a community project. The
project aims to donate much needed items to people
experiencing homelessness. As a group, they decided
which items would be helpful and designed a poster
to raise awareness in school. If you can contribute to
this project, please send any of the listed items below
in a carrier bag labelled Nurture 3.
Please only donate if you can, and thank you in
advance for your support.
A push on
reading at
Bramble
This half term we
are having a real push on
reading at home. All children
have reading record sheets and
bookmarks on which they
receive a stamp for each time
they read. When they fill a card
they are awarded an amazing
prize out of the lucky dip bag!
One of our Y6 pupils has
already filled a card...well
done and keep reading!
Creative
Industries
Partners Visit
Brunts
This week students at The Brunts Academy have had the chance to work
with professionals from the creative industries. Year 7 students have
worked with leaders from Freedom Factory, this will continue for the next
term and they are working towards writing and
performing their own song – some of them will
even choreograph their own dance moves too!
Year 8 students are working with actors from
Nottingham Playhouse – they will be participating
in workshops and activities over the next term to
create an original piece of Drama that will be of
performance standard!
Young Lion at Brunts
A huge congratulations to Year 9 student and Derby
County player, Tristan Gill, who attended an England
selection camp over Easter.
Tristan was successful in being selected for England’s next
game. We look forward to watching his future progress as he
strives towards his aspiration of becoming a professional
footballer.
Post-16 Good News
As part of their unit on research methods, Year
12 psychologists have been conducting
psychological research projects. This week
they have been out conducting observations
on student behaviour at lunchtime, ranging
from mask wearing compliance, friendship
group size and uniform infringements. They
then created research posters showing their
results before evaluating each others’ work.
The students were really amazing and it was
clear it pushed some of them outside of their
comfort zones. The work they did and the
discussions they had were fantastic!
Wishing you a wonderful Summer Holiday
With best wishes from
The Evolve Trust
