NARRATIVE:

On 08/18/19 at approximately 1920 hours, I was dispatched to the Whole Foods

located at

5555 East River Road

in reference to a shoplifting call. Communications advised that the reportee,

who was later identified as Tim Talkington, stated that there was a female last

seen wearing a red shirt who took a large basket full of items. He stated that

the associated vehicle was a white Oldsmobile with Arizona license plate

#BZT3744. Mr. Talkington stated the vehicle was occupied with three occupants

and the subjects were parked near the Walgreens in the same shopping complex.

When Deputy M. G. Van Santen #6501 and I arrived on scene, we began circulating

the shopping center parking lot near the Walgreens. I noted that Mr. Talkington

and another employee flagged me down in the parking lot and they stated that the

vehicle had just left. They confirmed the license plate and I noted the license

plate that Mr. Talkington gave me came back to a white 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass

four-door sedan. I noted that the registered owner's address was at

222 West Delano Street,

which was located near the intersection of North Oracle Road and West Fort

Lowell Road. I noted this was some distance away from where the Whole Foods was

located. At this point, Deputy Van Santen began circulating the area for the

vehicle and had negative contact.

I met Mr. Talkington at the front of the Whole Foods where he provided me with a

receipt for the stolen items. He stated that the female who he described as

possibly in her late 40's or early 50's, Caucasian, wearing a pink colored

shirt, white shorts, about medium height with possibly blonde hair was observed

by Mr. Talkington walking out of the store with two large bags draped over each

one of her shoulders and a rolling cart that they sale there at the Whole Foods.

Mr. Talkington stated that he had been following her and another male, who was

later to be identified as the driver of the vehicle, throughout the store. Mr.

Talkington knew that there were items in those bags and in the rolling shopping

cart. Mr. Talkington stated that the driver was possibly 65 years old, a

Caucasian male, and possibly had no teeth, having a better description. Mr.

Talkington also stated there was another male in the back seat of the vehicle

who he also believed was inside of the store but did not have a description for

him.

Mr. Talkington stated once the female had exited the doors, Mr. Talkington ran

outside and he saw the female attempting to put the items into a car that was

parked in the parking lot. Mr. Talkington stated that this was the license plate

he provided for us. He stated that the male then yelled at the female and stated

something along the lines of, "Just drop everything and get in!" Mr. Talkington

stated that at this time the female did indeed drop all the bags and the rolling

cart. She then rushed off to the passenger's side and leave the area.

rplwdir.x9 10/12/21

INITIAL DISCLOSURE 10/12/2021

Detail Incident Report for 190818226 Page 14 of 21

Mr. Talkington stated that he watched the vehicle go towards the Walgreens to

the very south side of the Walgreens building. He believed that the vehicle was

parked; however, when he had gotten there, he noticed that the vehicle had left

in an unknown direction. He stated he was certain that he got all of the items

that were listed on the receipt that he gave me back as he did not see the

female put any items into her vehicle whatsoever.

Mr. Talkington stated that he did not believe that this was the same individual

from an unrelated incident earlier. He stated he believed that this was an

isolated incident. He stated that he had never seen those particular people in

the store before and did not recognize the vehicle. Mr. Talkington stated that

he would be able to provide me with the camera footage as soon as he could get

his IT guy there to download the video. He stated it could be a day or two

before the video was ready for pick up.

I provided Mr. Talkington with the case number as well as my name and badge

number. I advised him that he could call back at any time to the Sheriff's

Department when the video was ready to be picked up. Mr. Talkington thanked me

for my time and shortly after, I cleared.

This concludes my involvement in this incident.

On 10/02/19, after receiving surveillance footage and reviewing it, I was able

to locate an address for the registered owner reference the vehicle used in the

shoplifting. At approximately 1145 hours, I responded to the address of

222 West Delano Street

to speak with Kay Farrar.

Upon my arrival, an elderly female answered the door and asked if she could help

me. Just behind her a woman followed who was later identified as the suspect,

Megan Kuhne. I recognized her from the photo. I began to address her and I asked

her if I could speak with her, as she appeared to be the person I was here to

speak with. She said absolutely as she exited the front door and stepped outside

under a carport.

I proceeded to inform her that I was assigned a case and asked her if she

recognized someone in a surveillance photo that I had. I proceeded to show her a

print photo that I had taken from the surveillance that depicted herself. She

proceeded to state that was her. I then proceeded to read her Miranda Rights

verbatim using my Quick Reference Guide and then asked her if she would answer

my questions. She said she would.

I proceeded to ask her why if she could tell me what she did. She proceeded to

tell me that she was out of work at that time and needed groceries. She said she

went to the store not initially intending to steal but after filling her cart

with items, she realized she could not pay for them and decided just to leave.

She said she walked out of the store without paying and went to her vehicle.

Ultimately, she was not able to get away with the items due to an employee

running after her.

I informed her that the amount of items she had stolen was approximately

$305.55. I informed her that due to her taking these items out of the store

without paying for them with the intention to steal, she would be cited for

Shoplifting. She stated she understood that and apologized for what she did. At

this point, I had her stand with Detective G. Bolasky #7312 who was also on

scene while I filled out a citation, Citation #764644. Upon completing the

citation for Megan Kuhne citing her for ARS 13-1805A1, Shoplifting, I witnessed

SYNOPSIS:

Case 201108222 resulted in the physical arrest of Megan Kuhne for the charge of

ARS 13-1805A1, shoplifting, which was a class 1 misdemeanor; as well as two

outstanding warrants. Megan was then transported to Pre-Trial Services where she

was provided with a new court date and then released.

DEPUTY PHOTOS:

While on scene multiple photos were taken. These were later submitted into

evidence utilizing the DIMS computer.

WARRANTS CONFIRMED OUT OF THE PIMA COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT:

• Warrant CR19915122MI related to Case 190818226.

• Warrant CR18813708MT related to Case 180826256.

NARRATIVE:

On 11/08/20 at 1905 hours I, Deputy C. W. Yankovich #8606, responded as a

training unit to

5085 North La Canada Drive

in reference to a larceny report. Upon arrival at the incident location I made

contact with the store manager, who pointed me in the direction of a vehicle

still in the parking lot which he stated belonged to the possible suspect in the

theft. The vehicle was determined to be a 2016 white Nissan Versa bearing an

Arizona license plate of CNG6424. I went over and made contact with that vehicle

but noticed there was no person inside, but there was a dog in the back seat of

that vehicle.

I then briefly made contact with the manager once again and I asked him where

the individual was last seen heading. He advised me that he believed she had

gone into the Whataburger which was just south of the incident location. I then

noticed that a female matching the description that the manager had provided me

was standing in the doorway of the Whataburger and it appeared that she had seen

my patrol vehicle in the parking lot and then went back into the Whataburger at

that time. I then went over to that location where I made contact with a

rplwdir.x9 10/12/21

INITIAL DISCLOSURE 10/12/2021

Detail Incident Report for 190818226 Page 20 of 21

Caucasian female with blue hair who was later identified as Megan Kuhne.

Immediately upon making contact with her I advised that she needed to put her

hands behind her back, at which point she was placed into handcuffs. I ensured

that these were double locked and checked for tightness. I advised Megan she was

being detained at this time seeing as how I was investigating a shoplifting in

which she was a possible suspect. I then escorted Megan out of the Whataburger

and back over to where my patrol vehicle was.

I began speaking with Megan. She advised me she had not stolen anything and that

she had not shoplifted and she believed that we had the wrong individual. She

then advised me that she did believe she had a warrant in reference to a

previous shoplifting. At this point, seeing how she was in handcuffs, I advised

her that I wanted to ask her some further questions, but prior to doing that I

read her her Miranda warnings utilizing my Miranda warnings card, to which she

stated that she understood.

Megan advised me she had been given a list of groceries to get by her husband

and she had gone to the Albertsons to purchase those groceries, but after

gathering the majority of them and putting them into her cart, she realized that

they were too expensive and then left the Albertsons without paying for any of

the items and also did not take any of the items. She also advised me that she

left them all in the store. Megan adamantly denied taking any items and advised

me she had left everything in the store and she had not shoplifted anything.

I then was advised by Deputy N. A. Dittmer #8345, who was on scene and speaking

to the store personnel, that Megan had possibly taken decorative gourds from the

front of the store area. I began looking through the window of the car that

Megan was associated with and I did note there was a bag of gourds in the center

console area that were consistent with the gourds that had been taken from the

Albertsons and I believed that these were the possibly shoplifted items.

Around this time a female approached the vehicle who was identified later as

Michelle Henderson. She advised me the vehicle belonged to her and that she was

a friend of Megan but was unsure of where Megan was. Michelle was then able to

unlock the vehicle for me, at which point I took possession of the gourds that

were in the center console area. She advised me they did not belong to her and

she had no idea why they were in her vehicle. I advised her that it appeared

Megan had shoplifted them. Michelle did not appear to have any knowledge of what

Megan had been doing in the Albertsons and when I made contact with Michelle she

had a large cart of groceries which she was able to provide a receipt for

stating that she did pay for all those items. I thanked Michelle for her

assistance, at which point she cleared from the scene in her vehicle.

rplwdir.x9 10/12/21

INITIAL DISCLOSURE 10/12/2021

Detail Incident Report for 190818226 Page 21 of 21

I was then advised by Deputy Dittmer that it was possible Megan had taken other

items in a large black bag, but those were not located. Deputy A. Vazquez #9045

then went back over to the Whataburger and searched the area and eventually was

able to locate a large purse in the women's restroom that had multiple stolen

items in it which later were determined to have been stolen by Megan. I made

contact with Megan once again and she advised me that she did in fact steal the

gourds and also later admitted to stealing the beauty products that were in the

purse that was located in the Whataburger.

It was around this time that all the warrants were confirmed and Megan was also

advised that she was going to be placed under arrest for a shoplifting charge.

Megan then was searched incident to arrest with negative findings of any illegal

items on her person. She was then placed in the back seat of my patrol vehicle,

properly seatbelted in, and transported to Pre-Trial Services, at which point
