FROM THE HEAD COACH
Good evening everyone, and welcome
to Eppleton as we take on Liverpool
under the lights in search of a return to
a winning note.
We have come off the back of last
weekend’s 1-1 draw at Watford, and now
we take on the league leaders.
We were disappointed with last week’s
result, but a point is always a good point
on the road and Watford had some good
chances as well when we’ve watched the
game back.
The girls were in good spirits on Tuesday
wanting to get back on the pitch and
put right what didn’t go quite so well on
Sunday in terms of in front of goal, so we
had a good session and we’re ready to
go again.
Liverpool will be tough, but I think
you’ve got to go into every game to try
and win it. They’ve had a fantastic run of
form and they’re at the top of the league
for a reason.
We have to be well-disciplined and keep
the ball when we have it and making sure
to do good things with it and put on a
good show for all of you supporting us.
We’re raring to go, and to have
your support here at Eppleton means
everything to us in our search for
a positive result.

FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Hello everyone and welcome back
to Eppleton, as we take on Liverpool in
a challenging Championship game.
Last weekend we picked up a 1-1 draw
at Watford, and we’re keen to go one
better in what will be a tough contest.
I think initially last weekend was
frustrating and as a team we viewed it as
two points dropped in a game that we
should have won, but having the time to
reflect this week, it’s a point on the road
and a point closer to where we want to
be at the end of the season.
We’ve had a good week of training,
looking at areas where we can improve.
When we looked back at the Watford
game, a big positive was that we created
a lot more chances than we have in
previous matches and it’s obviously
an area we’re focused on, and we can
continue to build on and bring into
this weekend.
Liverpool have had a very impressive
start to the season and we know it’s
going to be a difficult game.
They don’t concede many goals and
I think they’ve had five league clean
sheets on the trot and they’re scoring
goals every week, but these are the
games we relish and look forward to,
playing Saturday night under the lights
and another chance to play in front of
you all here supporting us.
Hopefully we can deliver you a great
result tonight.

CLUB NEWS
Sunderland AFC continued its longstanding
support for armed forces
charities at the Stadium of Light on
Tuesday 9 November as Bradford City
faced the Lads.
Serving military personnel from the
Army, Royal Navy and RAF were in
attendance, as well as veterans’ groups
and representatives from 8 Rifles, the
Military Preparation College for Training,
Veterans in Crisis Sunderland and the
Foundation of Light.
Approximately 20 minutes prior to kickoff,
military personnel undertook
a parade around the pitch and formed
a guard of honour as both teams took
to the field.
Staff Sergeant Chris Gee [5th Regiment
Royal Artillery, The Yorkshire Gunners],
Ger Fowler [Chief Executive Officer,
VIC Sunderland] and a cadet from the
MPCT then came together to lay a poppy
wreath in the centre circle, representing
the military’s past, present and future.
Following the sounding of the Last Post,
a minute’s silence was then held ahead
of kick-off to commemorate the
sacrifices of servicemen and women in
conflicts past and present.
This period of silence had also run
parallel with the SAFC Ladies and
Under-23 sides, who played their own
Remembrance fixtures across the course
of last week.
Sunderland goalkeeper L. R. Roose died
at the Battle of the Somme and his life,
and that of six other former SAFC players
killed in action in the First and Second
World Wars, is commemorated in a
monument by the stadium’s West Stand.
The memorial also recognises and pays
tribute to all those killed in the line
of duty and a Remembrance wreath
was placed at the monument by club
representatives ahead of the fixture.
Foundation of Light also marked this
year’s Remembrance Commemorations
by lighting the Beacon of Light red from
Tuesday 9 November to Sunday
14 November.
In partnership with VIC Sunderland, and
through funding provided by the Armed
Forces Covenant Fund, over 20 families
took part in Remembrance activities
over the October half-term, including
creating a dedicated Remembrance
display at the Beacon of Light.
In partnership with SAFC, the FoL also
hosted a special business networking
event on November 11 at the Beacon of
Light, which included speakers from the
Ministry of Defence and displays from
students at the Military Preparation
College based at the BoL.

Sunderland AFC Ladies 1
SAFC Ladies earned a point away from
home as they drew with Watford Ladies
at Gaywood Park on Sunday
Keira Ramshaw opened the scoring for
the Lasses in the first half, but Watford
equalised early in the second period.
Mel Reay’s side were unable to call upon
Abbey Joice, who was unavailable for the
game due to illness.
Watford had the first shot of the game,
but their header struck the near post and
went out of play.
The Lasses took the lead in the 17th
minute, as Charlotte Potts whipped
a dangerous ball into the box and
Ramshaw met the cross, guiding her
header past the goalkeeper.
The latter stages of the first half saw a
strong midfield battle between the two
sides and Neve Herron had a couple of
chances to double the Lasses’ lead – a
header and a long-range effort – but
both chances went over the bar.

Watford equalised in the 51st minute, as
Leanne Bell’s long-range effort flew past
Allison Cowling.
Both sides were embroiled in a fierce
battle after the goal with both sides
pushing for a winner, with Emily Scarr
going close and Watford forcing a good
save from Cowling.
Ramshaw could have doubled her
tally for the afternoon on a couple of
occasions, with one shot clipping the top
of the bar and a header stopped by the
Watford ‘keeper.
A late chance for the Lasses to find
a winner in stoppage time fell to Eve
Blakey, but her shot in the box was fired
over the bar.
The Lasses will now prepare for their
upcoming Championship contest against
Liverpool at Eppleton CW.
