The six weeks I spent at the Brevard Music Center
this summer were life-changing to say the least.
Because of my strong desire to become an orchestral
conductor, I was excited to hear that BMC
hired Keith Lockart (featured in photo), conductor
of the Boston Pops. This was possibly the best, most
fun, educational, musical, and most enriching summer
I’ve ever had.

Although I was very intimidated at first, by the time
the week was over, I was very upset about leaving.
The learning process was perfect for me, because
when they taught us how to conduct, we were
videotaped and then would be critiqued later in
a group. I think I was able to focus on them easier
than if I were told what to do without being able
to see it first-hand.

I was challenged to try new things on my violin that
I have never explored before. I learned how to
use chords, modes, and blue scales while improvising.
It was a weekend I will never forget!
