UPDATEEast Hants District CouncilOn Friday 8th October, Damian Hinds MP and East HampshireDistrict Council (EHDC) held their own COP26 event at AltonMaltings. The event was to promote and advise on ways in whicheveryone can help to reduce carbon emissions, across theDistrict. Originally to be opened by Damian Hinds, he was pingedby the NHS Covid app shortly before it began, so the event wasintroduced by Cllr. Robert Mocatta, EHDC’s Portfolio Holder forCommunity Development, Placemaking and Infrastructure. Theevent opened with case studies and videos on action that hadbeen taken to reduce carbon within the community, and wasfollowed by a keynote speech via video, from Lord Deben,Chairman of the UK Committee on Climate Change.COP26 Take ActionThe Chief Executive Officer of EHDC, Gill Kneller addressed the400 strong audience. She was followed by a presentation andQuestion and Answer session from three groups, under thebanner Take Action concerning Buildings, Transport, and Landuse and Agriculture. Local schools took part and described whatthey were all doing to help prevent climate change. They werefollowed by local leaders and decision makers, who took part in apanel discussion. The afternoon continued with presentations byTeresa Plowright of the Greening Campaign and Dr JonathanScurlock of the NFU on Net-Zero farming.There were 38 exhibitors and schools present who had stallsthroughout the building. Exhibitors included The River WeyTrust with its sandbox, CPRE Hampshire, Applegarth Farm, theNFU and the EHDC Regeneration team. The event was wellattended throughout the day, with electric cars and differenttypes of bicycles on display in the car park.Waste CollectionsWaste collections have been subject to delay recently. Norse andEHDC have been providing additional resources including weekendworking to catch up. Garden waste collections in particular, arerunning behind. EHDC is encouraging residents to leave bins orgarden waste bags in their usual collection place, and also to logtheir missed bins via:https://www.easthants.gov.uk/bin-collectionsand to sign up to:https://my.easthants.gov.uk/ for regular updates.The District Council is currently working with Norse South East,Hampshire County Council, Chevron TM and Highways Englandto schedule in and plan the next litter pick of the A3 and A31.EHdC Local PlanFollowing a hybrid approach to its Local Plan, EHDC has toundertake a review of its Plan every five years. A current Plan,which has to be approved by a Government Inspector, is essentialin order to define where development can take place. TheCouncil Leader, Cllr. Richard Millard, has written two open lettersto Michael Gove MP, the new Minister for Housing, calling onhim to address the housing squeeze on Councils that containlarge areas of National Park, where limited housing developmenttakes place (57% of the EHDC area is within the South DownsNational Park).damian Hinds enjoys Local HospitalityDamian Hinds attended the Bramshott and LiphookConservative Branch annual Curry and Quiz on Friday22nd October. It was his first visit to a local event followinghis appointment as the Minister of State for Security andBorders. The evening was well attended and was a welcomereturn to being able to get together again, in nearly twoyears. With Damian Hinds are Cllr. Angela Glass, Chairmanof the Branch, Cllr.
