the deepest on the field ... produced 52,664 oz. from 88,379 tons and paid £89,250 dividends ...<br />

1911-1926: North Ajax - dump <strong>of</strong> this mine remains at this date north <strong>of</strong> the Ajax by several <strong>100</strong> metres.<br />

In the gully below may be seen some <strong>of</strong> the huge sand dump areas <strong>of</strong> the Ajax and North Ajax<br />

mine started in 1911 and closed 1926 ... paid dividends <strong>of</strong> £47,970 from 96,000 tons<br />

crushed/36,980 oz. 757 ... North Ajax, <strong>100</strong>0ft - Sand dumps are north-east <strong>of</strong> tip, in the gully<br />

running eastwards. Gully called Cobblers. 758<br />

1911: The New Cornish Co., after a long term <strong>of</strong> unpr<strong>of</strong>itable work, has again found payable stone<br />

and in consequence is employing a considerable number <strong>of</strong> men ... principal work being<br />

carried out from Mitchell's shaft. 759<br />

1911: Ajax Co., kept its 20-head battery going with pr<strong>of</strong>itable results. Nuggetty Ajax, returned to the<br />

dividend list. North Nuggetty Ajax, erection <strong>of</strong> 10-head battery early in the year, since when<br />

the gold yields have eclipsed all other mines on the field. Central Ajax has sunk a shaft to<br />

about 400 feet, and erected a winding plant, is about to erect a crushing plant to treat rich stone<br />

discovered. South Ajax, after suspending operations for a time, erected a steam winding<br />

plant. 760<br />

1911: Frenchman’s Reef Co. continues to operate. 761<br />

1911: New Specimen Hill Co. has acquired a potion <strong>of</strong> ground formerly held by the Victoria Star,<br />

with plant thereon (consisting <strong>of</strong> winding and crushing machinery) 762<br />

1911: The William Tell Co., erected a new winding and crushing plant. 763<br />

1911: Old Jubilee Co., completed erection <strong>of</strong> crushing plant in 1911. 764<br />

1911: New Dry Diggings Co. discovered payable stone. 765<br />

1911: Olive Branch Co. erected a 10-head crushing plant ... This mine is now equipped with a<br />

winding and crushing plant. 766<br />

1911: North Frenchman’s Co. continued operations until early Dec 1911, when, owing to it being<br />

alleged that the opening <strong>of</strong> the mine has caused the Hepburn Mineral Springs to cease flowing,<br />

work was suspended, and the mine was closed down. 767<br />

1911: Alluvial mining in this division has practically ceased to exist, only a few fossickers and<br />

ground sluicers therein. 768<br />

1911: Connell's mine, Spargo Creek - Connell's mine is situated on the eastern bank <strong>of</strong> the Werribee<br />

River, about half a mile south-easterly from the Mineral Springs Hotel, on the Ballan to<br />

<strong>Daylesford</strong> road, about 12 miles north <strong>of</strong> Ballan and 11 miles south <strong>of</strong> <strong>Daylesford</strong>. The<br />
