world. Issues like poverty, lack of
basic human rights, corruption
and environmental degradation impact
millions of people. But the world also is rich
with prosperity, compassion, ethics, happiness
and freedom, and I know Thunderbird
alumni have contributed to that aspect of the
world in countless ways.

areas where it buys coffee, to Ambassador
Niels Marquardt ’80, and his wife Judi ’80,
who are in Africa trying to bring economic
freedom to the people of Madagascar and
Comoros, to Clay and Cindy Cooper, both
2000 graduates, who started Speak Shop,
which links Spanish tutors in Guatemala
with students around the world, the 36,000

world. You are the living embodiment of
our mission to educate global leaders who

Thunderbird alumni have been and are
ambassadors, CEOs of Fortune 500 corporations,
international consultants, authors,
doctors, ministers, musicians, artists, mayors,
professional athletes, daring entrepreneurs,
giving philanthropists and everything in
between. As global citizens, Thunderbird
alumni have created hundreds of thousands
of jobs, started tens of thousands of businesses,
invested hundreds of millions of dollars to
help businesses start-up or grow, and aided
tens of thousands through their work with
non-profit organizations.

support for student scholarships—especially
for those from developing countries—faculty
