eing a teenager in this world is not easy.
We all know that. People always telling
you cannot do something because of
your age. Well I’m writing this to prove you can
achieve what ever you want. I am Rebecca
Pitt and I’m a fifteen-year-old photographer. I
started on my birthday at the age of fourteen
with nothing but some second-hand equipment
and a dream. I wanted to take photos and
share them with the world. It’s a big dream to
fulfil isn’t it? I strongly believe if you want it that
bad, you can get it.
I started taking images of nature and animals
using automatic settings. Mainly the close-up
and sports mode settings. I found them particularly
useful. However, after a few months,
I knew I could improve more by using manual
so eventually I did. I can tell you it is not
straightforward. It’s a long bendy road. With
walls blocking your every movement. I had
to practice for hours on end. This obviously
was not easy with school. I had to use my time
wisely. I asked photographers for their advice.
This helped me know what the most important
things was to know. It took a lot of effort
to get the hang of it but it’s something I love.
This made every second so enjoyable I really
liked it so I made a Instagram page called
everything_photogra_phy and uploaded my
photos when I first started. Not only did I share
my photography, I shared my love for the
environment and wildlife. I used each post to
share an important message. Whether it was
about climate change, why we need to protect
animals or informing people what happens to
animals all over the world. I got a lot of negative
feedback. People saying, I didn’t deserve
my followers… people saying my photos are
awful and basic… I ignored everyone of them
because I had lots of people who were supporting
me. I knew I was doing something I
loved, and people liked it so why give it up for
a few people with negative attitudes? Giving in
is easy. Pushing through is the challenging part.
On my birthday this year (6th august) it will be
two years since I started photography and that
page. I have already grown to 8000 followers
who help me improve with constructive criticism
and support everything I do. I even have my
own business now. I take photos of businesses
products. I may not be the best photographer
or have the best equipment, but I know what
makes a good image. I use my creativity to take
images that they can use. I am so proud of how
far I have come. Cannot wait to see what the
future holds.
If an average girl like me can reach my passion
you too can. Work hard, love what you do and
believe in yourself.
