Collins discusses life at the club’s
academy and his hopes for the rest
of the season…
We’ve got quite a young team.
A lot of the second-year
scholars have gone out on loan.
There have been under-23s games
for us to play in as a result of that and
playing in those have been a good
experience for some of us younger
lads.
We learn from playing alongside first
team players such as Richard Nartey.
We can take what we learn from
players like him into our under-18s’
games and help some of our younger
lads in that side in the same way that
players like him have helped me.
It’s a first-team environment playing
in the under-23s’ games. You’re
constantly surrounded by
first-team players and
being able to see what
that’s like is really helpful.
From getting minutes
in those games, you
see the difference from
THE
ACADEMY
playing in an under-18s’ environment
and I think it’s helping to further
the development of us lads who are
involved in those matches.
The coaches give us a lot of
honesty and prepare us for being a
professional footballer. They make
it as realistic as they can for us in
training and remind us to always
train how we play.
We’re told to always give maximum
effort in everything we do and work
as hard as possible so that when
we do go over to the first-team it’s
normal to train and play like that
every single day.
Personally, I want to keep playing
in the under-18s every week and
carry on where I left off playing in the
under-23s’ games.
I’ll be aiming to continue
getting minutes and starts
for them throughout the
rest of the season.
Hopefully I will keep
doing well and keep
enjoying it.
