Apolytikion
By means of Your Cross, O Lord, You abolished
death. To the robber You opened Paradise.
The lamentation of the myrrh-bearing
women You transformed, and You gave
Your Apostles the order to proclaim to all
that You had risen, O Christ our God, and
granted the world Your great mercy.
For the Feast
Those three magnificent luminaries of the
tri-solar Godhead, who lit up the whole
world with rays of divine doctrines; those
mellifluent rivers of wisdom, who irrigated
all creation with the waters of the
knowledge of God; Basil the Great, and
Gregory the Theologian, and the illustrious
John, whose tongue produced golden
words! Let all of us who are enamored of
their words come together and sing hymns
to honor them. For they are ever interceding
with the Trinity on our behalf.
Apolytikion of the Church
Ιn giving birth, you did preserve your virginity;
in your dormition you did not forsake
the world O Theotokos. You were
translated onto life, since you were the
Mother of life; And by your intercessions do
you redeem our souls from death.

You sanctified the virginal womb by Your
birth, O Lord, and blessed the hands of
Symeon fittingly, O Christ God; and even
now You came and saved us. Now, give
peace to our Nation in time of war, and empower
our Leaders, so loved by You, the

ΠΡΟΣ ΕΒΡΑΙΟΥΣ (13:7-16)
Ἀδελφοί, μνημονεύετε τῶν ἡγουμένων
ὑμῶν, οἵτινες ἐλάλησαν ὑμῖν τὸν λόγον τοῦ
θεοῦ· ὧν ἀναθεωροῦντες τὴν ἔκβασιν τῆς
ἀναστροφῆς, μιμεῖσθε τὴν πίστιν. Ἰησοῦς
Χριστὸς χθὲς καὶ σήμερον ὁ αὐτός, καὶ εἰς
τοὺς αἰῶνας. Διδαχαῖς ποικίλαις καὶ ξέναις
μὴ παραφέρεσθε· καλὸν γὰρ χάριτι
βεβαιοῦσθαι τὴν καρδίαν, οὐ βρώμασιν, ἐν
οἷς οὐκ ὠφελήθησαν οἱ περιπατήσαντες.
Ἔχομεν θυσιαστήριον, ἐξ οὗ φαγεῖν οὐκ
ἔχουσιν ἐξουσίαν οἱ τῇ σκηνῇ λατρεύοντες.
Ὧν γὰρ εἰσφέρεται ζῴων τὸ αἷμα περὶ
ἁμαρτίας εἰς τὰ ἅγια διὰ τοῦ ἀρχιερέως,
τούτων τὰ σώματα κατακαίεται ἔξω τῆς
παρεμβολῆς. Διὸ καὶ Ἰησοῦς, ἵνα ἁγιάσῃ
διὰ τοῦ ἰδίου αἵματος τὸν λαόν, ἔξω τῆς
πύλης ἔπαθεν. Τοίνυν ἐξερχώμεθα πρὸς
αὐτὸν ἔξω τῆς παρεμβολῆς, τὸν ὀνειδισμὸν
αὐτοῦ φέροντες. Οὐ γὰρ ἔχομεν ὧδε
μένουσαν πόλιν, ἀλλὰ τὴν μέλλουσαν
ἐπιζητοῦμεν. Διʼ αὐτοῦ οὖν ἀναφέρωμεν
θυσίαν αἰνέσεως διὰ παντὸς τῷ θεῷ, τοῦτʼ
ἔστιν, καρπὸν χειλέων ὁμολογούντων τῷ
ὀνόματι αὐτοῦ. Τῆς δὲ εὐποιΐας καὶ
κοινωνίας μὴ ἐπιλανθάνεσθε· τοιαύταις γὰρ
θυσίαις εὐαρεστεῖται ὁ θεός.
EPISTLE READING
HEBREWS (13:7-16)
Brethren, remember your leaders, those
who spoke to you the word of God; consider
the outcome of their lives, and imitate
their faith. Jesus Christ is the same
yesterday and today and for ever. Do not
be led away by diverse and strange teachings;
for it is well that the heart be
strengthened by grace, not by foods, which
have not benefited their adherents. We
have an altar from which those who serve
the tent have no right to eat. For the bodies
of those animals whose blood is brought
into the sanctuary by the high priest as a
sacrifice for sin are burned outside the
camp. So Jesus also suffered outside the
gate in order to sanctify the people through
his own blood. Therefore let us go forth to
him outside the camp and bear the abuse
he endured. For here we have no lasting
city, but we seek the city which is to come.
Through him then let us continually offer
up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the
fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Do
not neglect to do good and to share what
you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing
to God.

MATTHEW (5:14-19)
The Lord said to his disciples, "You are the light of
the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do
men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a
stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your
light so shine before men, that they may see your
good works and give glory to your Father who is in
heaven. Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come
not to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass
away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever
then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be
called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be
called great in the kingdom of heaven."

This week’s Sermon
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
In today’s gospel reading we see Christ talking
to his disciples and explaining their mission in
life. In the past, we have said that meaning is
very important in life.
We have said that without meaning we lose our
way in life. Every one of us has a unique purpose in life.
Different stages of our life have different meanings, but we also have a
common meaning and a purpose in life. No matter how old we get we still desire
more life. Life is the goal of our existence and Christ came and offered exactly
that. He offered us abundant life.
He also said that he is the light of the world and that without Him we will
be sitting in darkness. But today dear brothers and sisters He has something even
more special for us.
We know that he is the life and the light of the world but today he talks to
his disciples and in fact, he is talking to us and tells us that we are the light of
the world. This is a great honor but also a huge responsibility. He calls us to be
his disciples. The Christianity we know mostly is about worship.
We come to church we light our candles we sit in the pews we listen to
the prayers of the Liturgy and the sermon and we go back home to our daily life.
But Christ is asking more than that. He is asking us today to become his disciples
and apostles in the world.
He wants us to be illuminated with his light and shine in the world. He
wants us to keep his commandments, but he also wants us to teach others by the
example of our lives.
Amen.

Κύρηγμα της εβδομάδας
Αγαπητοί εν Χριστώ αδελφοί,
Στη σημερινή ανάγνωση του Ευαγγελίου
βλέπουμε τον Χριστό να μιλά στους μαθητές του
και να εξηγεί την αποστολή τους στη ζωή. Στο
παρελθόν, έχουμε πει ότι αυτό το νόημα είναι
πολύ σημαντικό στη ζωή.
Έχουμε πει ότι χωρίς νόημα χάνουμε τον δρόμο μας στη ζωή. Ο καθένας
από εμάς έχει έναν μοναδικό σκοπό στη ζωή του.
Διαφορετικά στάδια της ζωής μας έχουν διαφορετική σημασία, αλλά
έχουμε επίσης ένα κοινό νόημα και έναν σκοπό στη ζωή. Ανεξάρτητα από το
πόσο χρονών είμαστε, θέλουμε να ζήσουμε περοσσότερο. Η ζωή είναι ο στόχος
της ύπαρξής μας και ο Χριστός ήρθε και μας πρόσφερε ακριβώς αυτό. Μας
πρόσφερε άφθονη ζωή.
Είπε επίσης ότι Αυτός είναι το φως του κόσμου και ότι χωρίς Αυτόν θα
καθόμαστε στο σκοτάδι. Αλλά σήμερα αγαπητοί αδελφοί, έχει κάτι ακόμα πιο
ξεχωριστό για εμάς.
Γνωρίζουμε ότι Αυτός είναι η ζωή και το φως του κόσμου αλλά σήμερα
μιλάει στους μαθητές Του και στην πραγματικότητα, μιλάει σε εμάς και μας λέει
ότι εμείς είμαστε το φως του κόσμου. Αυτό είναι μεγάλη τιμή αλλά και τεράστια
ευθύνη. Μας καλεί να γίνουμε μαθητές του. Ο Χριστιανισμός που γνωρίζουμε
κυρίως αφορά τη λατρεία.
Ερχόμαστε στην εκκλησία, ανάβουμε τα κεριά μας, καθόμαστε στα
στασίδια, ακούμε τις προσευχές της Λειτουργίας και το κήρυγμα και
επιστρέφουμε στο σπίτι, στην καθημερινότητά μας. Αλλά ο Χριστός ζητάει
περισσότερα από αυτό. Μας ζητά σήμερα να γίνουμε μαθητές και απόστολοί
Του σ’αυτόν τον κόσμο.
Θέλει να φωτιστούμε με το φως Του και να λάμψουμε στον κόσμο. Θέλει
να τηρούμε τις εντολές Του, αλλά θέλει επίσης να διδάσκουμε τους άλλους με
το παράδειγμα της ζωής μας.

Hippolytos, Pope of Rome
When Saint Hippolytus, Bishop of Rome, learned of the suffering
of the martyrs, he appeared before the governor despite
his advanced years and rebuked the torturers for their inhumanity.
The enraged governor sentenced the holy bishop to be
tortured. After long torments, they tied him hand and foot and
threw him into the sea.
Saint Censorinus was a high-ranking magistrate during the
reign of the Roman emperor Claudius II (268-270). He was
arrested and thrown into prison for his faith in Christ. By the
grace of the Lord Jesus Christ he raised up a dead man. As a
result, twenty soldiers and prison guards were converted to
Christ. They were beheaded with Saint Censorinus. Then the
virgin Chryse was brought for interrogation. She bravely confessed
herself a Christian and was subjected to torture. After
horrible torments, she was drowned in the sea.
Saint Sabinus had heavy rocks tied around his neck, and then they hung his body
on a tree and burned his sides with torches. In his torments, he gave up his holy soul to
the Lord.
With Saint Chryse suffered the martyrs Ares, Felix, Maximus, Herculianus,
Venerius, Stiracius, Mennas, Commodus, Hermes, Maurus, Eusebius, Rusticus, Monagrius,
Amandinus, Olympius, Cyprus, Theodore the Tribune, Maximus the Presbyter,
Archelaus the Deacon, and Cyriacus the Bishop.
All these Roman martyrs suffered in the year 269. The relics of the Hieromartyr
Hippolytus were put in the church of the holy Martyrs Laurence and Pope Damasus at
Rome. Saint Hippolytus was a disciple of Saint Irenaeus, Bishop of Lugdunum (Lyons in
France), and he is also renowned as a Christian theologian who wrote many treatises
against the heretics.
Saint Hyppolitus compiled a Paschal Canon, the famous Apostolic Tradition, “On
Christ”, and a “Treatise on the Antichrist.” Saint Hippolytus also wrote many commentaries
on Holy Scripture, on the Biblical Books: Genesis, Exodus, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes,
the Song of Songs, and on the Gospels of Matthew, Luke and John, and on the Prophets
Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Zechariah, on the Psalms of David and on the Apocalyse. Part of
his works are preserved only in fragments. His discourses, devoted to the Theophany and
the Prophet Daniel, are preserved in full. His discourses demonstrate his masterful style
of preaching. He was one of the last Western Fathers to write in Greek.

HOUSE BLESSING
Dear Parishioners,
We have started a new year and I pray that God blesses us all in this New Year
abundantly. I pray your family and friends are healthy. This year I have committed to visiting
as many of our community members as possible.
As you know, every year we celebrate house blessings beginning around Theophany,
the Feast of Christ's baptism. It is important that we bless the things that we
use. At this time of the year not only do we bless our homes, but also our vehicles and
our pets but most importantly the church has many ways of blessing us and our children.
A house blessing is also a great way of strengthening our relationship with the
community. Please fill out the enclosed card and let me know when you would like me to
bless your home and family.
Please note that all you have to provide is a bowl of water, an Icon of Christ
or a Patron Saint, a candle, and a few branches of basil with which we will sprinkle
the house with the holy water.

ΑΓΙΑΣΜΟΣ
Ξεκινήσαμε μια νέα χρονιά και προσεύχομαι ο Θεός να μας ευλογεί άφθονα
όλους αυτή τη νέα χρονιά. Εύχομαι η οικογένεια και οι φίλοι σας να είναι υγιείς. Φέτος
έχω δεσμευτεί να επισκεφτώ όσο το δυνατόν περισσότερα μέλη της κοινότητάς μας.
Όπως γνωρίζετε, κάθε χρόνο ευλογούμε τα σπίτια μας ξεκινώντας γύρω στα
Θεοφάνεια, την εορτή της βάπτισης του Χριστού. Είναι σημαντικό να ευλογούμε τα
πράγματα που χρησιμοποιούμε. Αυτή την εποχή του χρόνου όχι μόνο ευλογούμε τα
σπίτια μας, αλλά και τα οχήματά μας και τα κατοικίδιά μας. Αλλά το πιο σημαντικό είναι
ότι η εκκλησία έχει πολλούς τρόπους να ευλογεί εμάς και τα παιδιά μας.
Η ευλογία του σπιτιού είναι επίσης ένας πολύ καλός τρόπος για να ενισχύσουμε
τη σχέση μας με την κοινότητα. Παρακαλώ συμπληρώστε την συνημμένη κάρτα και
ενημερώστε με πότε θέλετε να ευλογήσω το σπίτι και την οικογένειά σας.
