He is an expert on multilateralnuclear weapons issues – in particular nuclear norms and responsibilities, risk reduction and disarmament efforts – and has anongoing interest in the impacts of emerging technologies on international peace and security. Sebastian’s practice focuses primarilyon trust and confidence-building between nuclear and non-nuclear possessor states, as Director of the BASIC-ICCS Programmeon Nuclear Responsibilities. Sebastian regularly appears in the national and international media and has published in Arms ControlWonk, The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, and the World Economic Forum. He received the Postgraduate School’s Prize and afirst-class Master’s in international studies and diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), and a first-classdegree from the University of York in English and related literature.Corentin BrustleinDr Corentin Brustlein is the Director of the Security Studies Center at the French Institute of International Relations (Ifri), in Paris. Hiswork focuses on nuclear and conventional deterrence, arms control, military balances, and US and French defence policies. Beforeassuming his current position, he had been a research fellow at Ifri since 2008 and a lecturer at the University of Lyon. He has beenthe lead editor of Ifri Proliferation Papers since 2014 and currently serves on the United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory Boardon Disarmament Matters. He holds a PhD in political science from the Jean Moulin University of Lyon. His most recent publicationsinclude The Erosion of Strategic Stability and The Future of Arms Control in Europe (2018) and Entry Operations and the Future ofStrategic Autonomy (2017).Bryan ClarkBryan Clark is a Senior Fellow at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA). Prior to joining CSBA in 2013, hewas Special Assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations and Director of his Commander’s Action Group, where he led developmentof Navy strategy and implemented new initiatives in electromagnetic spectrum operations and undersea warfare. He served in theNavy headquarters staff from 2004 to 2011 where his areas of emphasis were modelling and simulation, strategic planning andinstitutional reform and governance. Prior to retiring from the Navy in 2007, Bryan was an enlisted and officer submariner, servingin afloat and ashore submarine operational and training assignments including tours as Chief Engineer and Operations Officer atthe Navy’s nuclear power training unit.Michael CohenDr Michael Cohen is a Senior Lecturer at the National Security College, Crawford School of Public Policy, ANU College of Asia andthe Pacific. His research addresses international security in the Indo-Pacific and explores the causes of armed interstate conflict.His publications include When Proliferation Causes Peace: The Psychology of Nuclear Crises (2017) and North Korea and NuclearWeapons: Entering the New Era of Deterrence (2017, with Sung Chull Kim). Michael’s other completed and ongoing research addressesleaders and foreign policy decision-making, US alliances in the Indo-Pacific and cyber, interstate conflict and the Indo-Pacific.He has twelve years of teaching experience in Australia, Canada and Denmark.VI
