TRAGEDY STRIKES
AGAIN IN HOUSTON
San Jacinto Pct. 1 Constable Deputy Killed
while working extra job at PlazAmericas Mall.
HOUSTON – San Jacinto Precinct
1 Deputy Constable Neil
Adams was just a few hours
from finishing his last shift at the
PlazAmericas Mall on Wednesday
February 23, when he was
shot and killed.
The 62-year-old law deputy
had been working an extra job at
the mall for quite some time and
told his wife it was becoming
way too dangerous, and this was
going to be his last day.
According to HPD Chief Troy
Finner, a few minutes before 4
p.m., Adams was called to the
Casanova Collezioni store for
a disturbance involving a man
identified as 35-year-old Czyz
Harrison. Adams attempted to
detain the subject and Harrsion
began fighting Adams and at
some point, was able to gain
control of the deputy’s gun. Harrison
then shot and killed Adams.
Just minutes before the shooting,
Harrison had posted selfies
on his social media, showing
him trying on multiple outfits inside
the store on his on what he
claimed was his 35th
birthday. As he was
attempting to pay for
his purchases, something
caused the
store staff to contract
the mall security
and requested an
officer come to their
store.
When Adams arrived,
he approached
the suspect and
that’s when the altercation
began.
Witnesses on the
scene said, “We
heard five shots right
there too and that’s
when we started
just running to the
back of the store,”
said one worker who
shared cell phone
video of gunshots.
“There were kids
here too, with families.”
The worker who
witnessed the gunfire
said Adams was a constant
presence at the PlazAmericas
mall, working as a security
officer. Precinct 1 Constable
Roy Rogers, for whom Adams
worked, said he had to work
extra jobs to supplement his less
than $40,000 a year salary.
“It’s a shame you can’t make a
living doing what you love doing,”
said Rogers.
HPD officers responding to an
officer down at the mall, arrived
and found the shooter at
the food court. When they approached
him, the suspect was
carrying a knife and “came at the
officers.” The officers shot the
suspect, however Finner said he
got up and tried to flee, so they
fired a taser at him. The suspect
continued to resist, and officers
eventually were able to place
him into custody.” He was transported
to a local hospital and
later died.
At a press conference later
that evening, with HPD Chief
Troy Finner and San Jacinto Pct.
1 Constable Roy Rogers, Rogers
held back tears during his remarks,
calling Deputy Constable
Adams a hero. “He’s a hero,” he
said. “And we want to honor
him.”
Finner also took a brief moment
to offer condolences for
the officer’s loved ones left behind.
“I ask that everybody pray for
this beautiful family,” he said.
“Pray for law enforcement families,
our cities, our counties, and
our nation.”
Amid an outpouring of support
from several other law
enforcement officials, Deputy
Adams’ wife, shared heartbreaking
testimony but also asked for
support to the other officers like
her husband.
“My husband always said that
you can either be a sheep or
sheepdog. And I want everybody
to pray for all the sheepdogs
out there that are protecting
everybody,” she said. “They get
a bad rap, and they just want to
protect you. That’s what they
want to do in their heart. And
everybody’s turned their back on
them. And everybody should pray
for all of them because they’re
here for you.”
