Product Introduction
Viewports
Torr Scientific manufactures a range of UHV viewports in CF, ISO or KF formats including a
variety of anti-reflective coatings to enhance performance. Materials include Kodial (borosilicate
glass), Quartz, Sapphire, MgF 2 , BaF 2 , CaF 2 , ZnSe, CVD diamond and Lead Glass. Non-magnetic
options and 316LN flanges are offered. Full transmission, dimensional, optical and temperature
specifications can be viewed on the viewport datasheets and standard price list. Custom designed
viewports, such as special assemblies to be able to insert microscopes or cameras in to vacuum
systems, can be quoted on request. The viewports are manufactured and coatings are processed
in cleanroom conditions.
Viewports with Anti-Reflective Coating
A range of anti-reflective coatings can be processed and optimised to customer specified wavelengths.
Theoretical reflectance curves can be supplied on request for particular window material
and wavelength combinations. Single 1QWOT ‘AR’ coatings, plus four-layer broadband ‘BBAR’
coatings for a wavelength range and two-layer ‘V’ coatings optimised for single wavelengths are
provided. A list of regular curves can be viewed on the Torr Scientific website. If there is a curve
listed which suits your application please reference it in your enquiry or order. The coatings are
processed on TSL’s eBeam system in cleanroom conditions and tested on a state of the art UV-Vis
spectrophotometer.
Glass to Metal Seals & Glass-Working
Torr Scientific has extended its vacuum window processing capabilities to include production of
glass to metal seals. The facility will also allow further development of the wide range of vacuum
optical components offered by the company. A new induction heater is now in operation and
glass-working lathes, ovens and test equipment are also housed in the glass department. The
operators have many years’ experience in the production of glass products for vacuum and electron
optical devices. The recently formed department will enable the company to develop glass
vacuum windows, feedthroughs and X-ray tube encapsulations in addition to the current vacuum
brazing techniques applied for production of the vacuum optic range of products. All Kodial glass
viewports are now produced in-house and enquiries for custom requirements for glass-working
and glass to metal seals are welcomed.
Chambers, Viewport Accessories and Construction Hardware
A complimentary range of CF viewport shutters is also offered by Torr Scientific. Sealing components
such as KF and ISO centering rings, plus CF copper gaskets are also available. It is strongly
recommended to always use annealed copper gaskets with all Torr Scientific viewports. Viewport
construction components such as KF swing clamps, ISO claw clamps, nuts, bolts and washers and
blank flanges can also be found in this catalogue. Torr Scientific is designing and manufacturing
UHV chambers for a variety of research applications. The chambers can be quoted to customer
specifications and can be offered in 304L, 316L and 316LN stainless steel. All vacuum fabrications
are inspected, helium leak tested and cleaned to UHV standards. Pumps, pumping trolleys and
assembly packages can also be supplied.
