This is not a complete list of all vehicles operated by the company but only has those vehicles which I know
about. Where a registration or fleet number appears twice the earliest vehicle can be assumed to have gone or
been renumbered/reregistered. If the same VIN appears twice it is normally because the vehicle has been
reregistered and should be shown again on the next line down. As always, any comments or additional
information are always welcome.
FALKLAND ISLANDS
The Falkland Islands have not previously featured in the OJ. This section has been prepared by Duncan
Bingham, who would welcome any additional information about vehicles in the Falklands to 67 Easthorpe,
SOUTHWELL, Notts NG25 0HY or by e-mail (duncanbingham@zoom.co.uk). Past ‘Buses Worldwide’ articles by
Gary French and Alan Osborne are gratefully acknowledged as is the help of Andy Williams of Falkland Islands
Tours & Travel, Paul Bateson, David Corke and various PSV Circle members and officials.
It is not believed that there were any full sized buses on the Falklands until after the 1982 conflict with Argentina.
Initially, buses were used in relation to the construction of the RAF airfield at Mount Pleasant from 1983, but
subsequently vehicles have been used on tours for cruise ship passengers or for airport transfers between the
capital Stanley and Mount Pleasant. Tourism and fisheries have contributed to a strongly growing economy since
the conflict.
The registration system was formerly an F-prefix followed by up to four numbers. This system is still continued
for official (e.g. police) vehicles but from 1/7/86 the general system uses an F-prefix and then up to three digits
followed by a letter (e.g. F999D, followed by F1E). FxxxF has been omitted. From 1983, UK registration plates
were initially retained on vehicles used by contractors building the RAF airfield, but vehicles were later licensed
with Falklands-issued plates, some of which were initially the same as the fleetnumbers carried by the vehicles.
