National Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)<br />
(Ends July 1, 2011)<br />
These grants are awarded to Pell-eligible U.S. Citizens and as of July 2009 to<br />
eligible non-citizens who have completed a rigorous course of study in high<br />
school, as defined by the federal government for each state www.ed.gov. The<br />
student must be enrolled in the first or second academic year of a degree<br />
program and must have completed a rigorous course of study. For the<br />
second year the student must have attained a 3.0 GPA at the end of the first<br />

National Smart Grants (Ends July 1, 2011)<br />
The National Smart Grant is available to Pell-eligible U.S. Citizens and<br />
as of July 2009 to eligible non-citizens, during the third and fourth years<br />
of undergraduate study, who are majoring in physical, life, or computer<br />
sciences, mathematics, technology, or engineering or in a foreign<br />
language determined critical to national security. The student must also<br />
be enrolled in the courses necessary to complete the degree program and<br />
to fulfill the requirements of the intended eligible major in addition to<br />
maintaining a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0. For<br />

Post-9/11 GI Bill<br />
The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides education benefits for eligible veterans.<br />
The benefits will cover tuition and mandatory fees at the highest public<br />
in-state undergraduate tuition rate per credit hour and mandatory fees<br />
as set annually by the Veterans Administration (VA). Only the VA can<br />
confirm both eligibility and individual benefit rate. Veterans may receive<br />
up to 36 months of entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Service<br />
members enrolled in Post-9/11 GI Bill program may, with the approval<br />
of the Department of Defense, be able to transfer unused educational<br />
benefits to their spouses or children. For more information on Post-9/11<br />

State Grants/Scholarships<br />
New York State Grant-Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)<br />
Full-Time (12 or More Credits Per Semester)<br />
New York State resident students may qualify for a TAP award of up to<br />
$5,000. TAP eligibility is based on the family’s New York State taxable<br />
income. Complete your FAFSA on the Web (FOTW) application.<br />
After receiving your submission confirmation, if you are a New York<br />
State resident and listed <strong>Fordham</strong> <strong>University</strong> on the FAFSA, you will<br />
immediately be given a link to complete your TAP on the Web (TOTW).<br />
If you haven’t already filed for TAP, please return to www.hesc.org to file.<br />
Follow the instructions on the TOTW website. Filing online is easier and<br />
less error-prone. The code for all undergraduate schools is 0245. If you<br />
do not receive an award certificate from NYSHESC within four weeks<br />
after filing for TAP or within three weeks of the passing of the state<br />
budget (whichever is later), contact NYSHESC at (518) 474-5642. For<br />
renewal students must meet all program specific criteria and be making<br />
academic progress toward their degree. See section on Academic Progress<br />
in Financial Services.<br />
New York State Part-Time Tap<br />
Part-time TAP is a grant available through the TAP application process for<br />
full-time students who do not meet full-time status in a given term but<br />
meet the following criteria. To be eligible for part-time TAP, a student must<br />
have been a first-time freshman in the 2006-7 academic year or thereafter,<br />
have earned 12 credits or more in each of the two previous consecutive<br />
semesters, for a minimum total of 24 credits earned, with a minimum<br />
2.0 GPA (grade point average). In addition, the student must be a U.S.<br />
Citizen or eligible non-citizen and be a legal resident of New York State. A<br />
student must be matriculated in an approved program of study and be<br />
in good academic standing. A student must be taking 6 but fewer than 12<br />
credits per semester. In addition, the student must not be in default on a<br />
student loan guaranteed by HESC. A student must also meet the income<br />
eligibility limitations: $80,000 NYS net taxable income for dependent<br />
undergraduate students or students who are married and have tax<br />
dependents and $10,000 NYS net taxable income for single independent<br />
undergraduate students with no dependents.<br />
A.P.T.S. (Aid for Part-Time Study)<br />
If you are a New York State resident studying part time and plan on<br />
enrolling for less than 12 credits for the fall or spring term, you may be<br />
eligible for APTS award of up to $1,000 per semester. Applications are<br />
available in the Office of Student Financial Services after July 1. This<br />
grant award is calculated using New York State “Net Taxable Income,”<br />
academic performance, number of credits enrolled for each term and<br />
availability of funds. Funds are very limited. Awards will be distributed<br />
until funding is exhausted.<br />
Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) Grant<br />
This aid is limited to New York State residents who have been designated as<br />
eligible for the HEOP program. It is gift aid, which does not have to be repaid.<br />
Part of this aid is credited to your account. If you are a commuting student, a<br />
portion of the HEOP grant will be paid to you in the form of a stipend.<br />
New York State World Trade Center Scholarships<br />
(Not limited to New York State residents)<br />
The NYS World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship guarantees access<br />
to a college education for children, spouses and financial dependents of<br />
deceased or severely and permanently disabled victims of the Sept. 11,<br />
2001 terrorist attacks on the United States or the subsequent rescue and<br />
recovery operations. This includes victims at the World Trade Center site,<br />
at the Pentagon, or on flights 11, 77, 93 or 175.<br />
Survivors of the terrorist attacks who are severely and permanently<br />
disabled as a result of injuries sustained in the attacks or the subsequent<br />
rescue and recovery operations are also included.<br />
