48 Academic Programs, Policies and Procedures<br />

The student must return the total amount of Title IV funds the student<br />

cannot keep minus the amount <strong>Fordham</strong> is required to return.<br />

The student (or parent in the case of a PLUS Loan) must return or repay,<br />

as appropriate, the amount determined to any Title IV loan program in<br />

accordance with the terms of the loan, and any Title IV grant program as<br />

an overpayment of the grant. However, a student is not required to return<br />

50 percent of the grant assistance that is the responsibility of the student<br />

to repay.<br />

Amounts to be returned by <strong>Fordham</strong> or the student will be credited to<br />

the appropriate programs in the following order: Unsubsidized Federal<br />

Stafford loans, Subsidized Federal Stafford loans, Federal Perkins loans,<br />

Federal PLUS loans received on behalf of the student.<br />

If amounts to be returned remain after repayment of all outstanding<br />

loan amounts, the remaining excess must be credited to any amount<br />

awarded for the semester for which a return of funds is required in the<br />

following order: Federal Pell Grants, Federal Academic Competitiveness<br />

Grants (ACG), National Smart Grants, Federal SEOG Grants, other grant<br />

or loan assistance authorized by Title IV of the Higher Education Act,<br />

<strong>University</strong> funds. Federal work-study is excluded from this policy.<br />

<strong>University</strong> Policy<br />

Catholic and Jesuit Tradition<br />

The distinctive Catholic and Jesuit tradition of <strong>Fordham</strong> <strong>University</strong> is<br />

an important part of its present identity and mission. For this reason,<br />

the <strong>University</strong> considers it a priority to recruit qualified Jesuits from<br />

the existing pool of Jesuit scholar-teachers. Whatever initiatives<br />

the <strong>University</strong> takes in pursuit of this priority will always take into<br />

consideration the needs of individual departments and the appropriate<br />

<strong>University</strong> procedures for hiring of faculty.<br />

Nondiscrimination Policy<br />

<strong>Fordham</strong> <strong>University</strong> is an academic institution that in compliance with<br />

federal, state, and local laws, does not discriminate on the basis of race,<br />

color, creed, religion, age, sex, gender, national origin, marital or parental<br />

status, sexual orientation, citizenship status, veteran status, disability, or<br />

any other basis prohibited by law.<br />

No otherwise qualified person shall be discriminated against in<br />

any programs or activities of the <strong>University</strong> because of disability.<br />

Likewise, no person shall be discriminated against on the basis of<br />

sex. A compliance officer is available to address any complaints<br />

The <strong>University</strong> continues its commitment to affirmative action by<br />

Reserved Rights<br />

The <strong>University</strong> reserves the right, in its discretion, at any time, to deny<br />

matriculated status, to cancel a student’s registration, to refuse to<br />

award academic credit, or to deny or rescind a certificate or a degree<br />

in accordance with the <strong>University</strong> Statutes and its academic policies.<br />

All forms of dishonesty, including cheating and plagiarism, may result<br />

in appropriate disciplinary action, including denial or revocation of a<br />

degree or certificate.<br />

Campus Security<br />

The Advisory Committee on Campus Security will provide upon request all<br />

campus crime statistics as reported to the U.S. Department of Education.<br />

Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act<br />

In accordance with the “Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act,” effective July<br />

1, 1996, information regarding the intercollegiate athletics program is<br />

available for review upon request to the Director of Athletic Administration,<br />

<strong>Fordham</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Gym, Bronx, NY 10458, (718) 817-4300.<br />

Support Services for Students<br />

with Disabilities<br />

<strong>Fordham</strong> <strong>University</strong> treats students with disabilities in a<br />

nondiscriminatory manner, and will make reasonable accommodations,<br />

and provide appropriate auxiliary aids and services to assist otherwise<br />

qualified individuals with disabilities in achieving access to its<br />

programs, services, and facilities in accordance with Section 504<br />

of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with<br />

Disabilities Act of 1990. Incoming freshmen of the Class of 2013 seeking<br />

a substitution/waiver for the foreign language core through the Office<br />

of Disability Services must complete the process by the end of the fall<br />

semester of their sophomore year.<br />
