By Frank O’Brien Built in the then-emerging Alta Vista community of Whistler, the family chalet had weathered 40 winters and, while still solid, was makeover ready for a new generation. The year-long renovation, completed recently by Peak Ventures with design treatment by Whistler Interior Design, added 1,000 square feet, extensive new decking and interior work, state-of-the-art technology, and a series of signature carvings reflecting a love of large animals. This is apparent at the massive fir front door, etched with a bear relief that is carried into tile work inlaid in the lobby floor. The owner runs a successful midway amusement company, which began as a wild animal touring group decades ago.
