nottingham Boys Choir - it’s
brilliant!
ofsted confirms that robert
shaw primary is a really
good school
by Robert Shaw Primary School
Choir member Magnus, sings NBC’s praises;
“Nottingham Boys Choir is a fantastic place to learn
to sing, to make friends and to have fun.
I am 18 and later this year will be leaving NBC
to take up a place at a university in London. No
longer associating Wednesday evenings with choir
rehearsals will be so strange; NBC has been a part
of my life since I was 6 years old, and I will miss so
many things about it.
The annual pantomime trips (tickets funded by a
generous benefactor), football kick-abouts in the
local park, outings to trampoline centres and laser
tag, have all been great fun and I have loved being
part of a ‘club’ with other boys. But the singing is the
thing I will miss the most.
At NBC we sing everything from pop songs to 8-part
15th century madrigals, exploring folk, classical, and
other genres along the way. Our musical director,
Matthew Burton, is so enthusiastic and he is an
amazing singer too; his vocal range is phenomenal –
he can demonstrate the treble parts, and power out
the bass notes comfortably too!
It’s going to be a sad day for me when I perform in
my final concert with NBC, but I know the Choir will
continue to thrive, and I look forward to attending
NBC concerts in the future. New members are
always welcome, and I promise you, it’s brilliant!”
Robert Shaw Primary School in Nottinghamshire
has been on a rapid journey of improvement since
they joined the Transform Trust family in 2017 and
is delighted to have received a Good in all areas in
their most recent Ofsted inspection.
Despite the disruption caused by a two-year long
global pandemic, Robert Shaw leaders and staff
have continued their relentless pursuit to improve
the school, resulting in a huge boost from Requires
Improvement in 2017 to achieving a solid ‘Good’
grading in every single area inspected in 2021.
OFSTED praised leaders’ efforts since the previous
inspection, highlighting the quality of leadership
from Transform Trust, Governors and the schools
Leadership team. The report states “This is a school
that celebrates diversity and is proud to serve the
community” as well as praising its global curriculum
“children begin their learning journey understanding
how to be citizens of Nottingham and then widening
their lens to learn as citizens of the world.” Pupils
told inspectors “It doesn’t matter what colour your
skin is, or what your beliefs are. What matters is your
personality and who you are”.
Headteacher Karen Coker said:
“We are one big family here at Robert Shaw and are
committed to making sure our children thrive. We are
a good school, and our staff work so hard every single
day for every single child.”
