Pictures: FAITH QINGAFAITH QINGAThe Royal St Andrew’s Hotel hosteda one of a kind arts evening,dubbed Port-Pate-Piano-Poetry-Painting-Pirouette-Petals on Saturday,May 7.The production, in a theatre-in-theroundsetup was three months inpreparation, spearheaded by eightdedicated individuals. The eveningshowcased different artists, from poets toopera singers, dancers to floral artists.All the performers were locals.Creative Director, Ann Green, said aconversation on a flight many years ledto the idea of a ‘Port Pate Piano’: a youngwoman telling her about a soiree shehad overseen “planted a seed which hadalways been in the back of my mind”.When Covid-19 regulations wereeased, “then came a beam of light whensmall green shoots began appearingacross the world. Now was the time!”she said. Green then gathered friendsand colleagues to explain her hopes ofthe idea and they were all roped in. Theyapproached the Royal St Andrews Hotelmanagement who wholeheartedlysupported the project and hosted thespecial night.The evening started off with Green,who was the Creative Director andAnnouncer of the evening, reciting JohnKe a t s ’s ‘A thing of beauty’, which wasfollowed by a creative flowerarrangement: Jean, Evie and Daphnerelayed the message of pillar of strengthwithin three minutes. The trio featuredthroughout the evening show casingtheir ikebana skills, a remarkable displayof artistry, and stunned the audiencewith their individual boats and littlebirds creations.Local opera singer, Mteto Maphoyi,Port,pate,piano,p o e t r y. . .wowed the audience with his renditionof Nessun Dorma, hitting the high notesof the well-known tenor aria to muchapplause.
