Volunteers

By giving their precious time Golowan volunteers pay an important contribution to
the Penzance community. We cannot deliver the Festival without them! Golowan
volunteers help bring our community together in celebration and Mazey madness
and make Penzance a place where we love to live. With all that in mind, we wish to
thank our beautiful volunteers and ever friendly, helpful stewards, who advise and
guide our community during Penzance’s glorious summer Festival.
If you want to make a real difference to Golowan in 2022
then please do get in touch!
Golowan has need of volunteers between Friday 17th and Sunday 26th June – but
especially between the long weekend of Thursday 23rd (Mock Mayor Elections),
Friday 24th (Golowan Fireworks), Saturday 25th (Mazey Day Parades) and Sunday
26th June (Quay Fair Day).
Volunteer roles we need to fill are:
• Stewarding the processions
• Collecting donations
• Meeting & greeting
• Litter picking
• Giving out water during the
processions
8
• Running the Golowan pop-up shop
and stall
• The Golowan Green Brigade who
wake up early on Mazey morning
to decorate Market Jew Street and
St Johns Hall with greenery and
bunting for the Mazey Day Parades
• And more!
Contact us by email: golowan@hotmail.co.uk or by
Phone: 01736 369686 and be part of the best community
event in the south-west.
Giving up just three hours of your time would be so helpful
and as a thank you every volunteer receives a Golowan
T-shirt, refreshments, and the offer of a reduced-price ticket to
Penlee Park Theatre and the offer of a ticket to a local event.
Volunteer refreshments are kindly sponsored by Mr. Hugh Scantlebury.
Les Rowe
Les Rowe was a true Cornwall ‘character’.
The St. Buryan born ex-Geevor tin miner,
local publican, singer, stalwart of the
Golowan Band and loyal supporter of the
Golowan Festival for many years, passed
away in September. He left memories that
will linger for ever and is much missed by
all who were lucky enough to know him.
