State of the snowpack
Data shows that on May 15, 2022, the snow pack throughout
British Columbia was well above normal, ranging from 96 to
152% of normal. The West Kootenay (128%) and East Kootenay
(124%) are above normal. Stations in the northern sections of the
Kootenays are well above normal and may reach record values
for June 1st. In an average year, approximately 18% of the annual
BC snow pack has melted by May 15th (according to data from
automated snow weather stations). Due to the persistent cool
temperatures delaying snowmelt and storm events contributing
additional snow at higher elevations, it is estimated that only 2.6%
of the total snow has melted so far this year
Snow pack is only one factor related to freshet flood risk.
Weather conditions from May through July will determine the
timing, magnitude, and rate of snowmelt, where heavy rainfall
events can exacerbate snowmelt driven flows.

General local government elections
In coordination with Elections BC, the RDCK has released its
schedule of significant dates and statutory requirements for the
2022 General Local Government Election. Important dates to
keep in mind, include:
• August 30 – September 9 – Nomination Period. The period
for candidates to submit their nominations to local election
officials.
• September 17 – October 15 – Campaign Period. The period
begins on the 28th day before General Voting Day and ends
at the close of voting on General Voting Day.
• September 19 – Declaration of Election by voting or acclamation
• October 15 – General Election Day
• November – Inaugural RDCK Board Meeting

Jinx came into shelter after being trapped and bonking her head.
Being in a trap was stressful and spooky for Jinx, so upon arriving
into foster care, she was slightly nervous of her new environment.

small dog in foster. She can often be found cuddling and sleeping
with the dog.
Jinx is looking for a calm home to spend lots of time cuddling her
human friends, and remaining an indoor-only kitty to avoid any
scary cat traps! With slow and proper introductions, Jinx would enjoy
sharing her space with another calm and respectful furry friend!
