SuffolkC O AS TSUFFOLK COASTS AND HEATHSSuffolk Coasts and Heaths are in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and home to a diverse andunique landscape and with that comes diverse wildlife. Withinthis gorgeous part of Suffolk, you will find the pretty villages of Dunwich, Westleton and Eastbridge.Dunwich is a small place today, with just a handful of houses and a brilliant pub, but what makes itfascinating, is that in the 13th Century it was the sixth most important town in England before it graduallygot consumed by the sea. At nearby Dunwich Heaththere are several marked walks, courtesy of the National Trust and adjoin RSPB Minsmere which is a havenfor Twitchers!Westleton is one of the prettiest villages in this part of Suffolk. Centred around a large green and midwaybetween Aldeburgh and Southwold, it is one of the most popular places to stay on the Heritage Coast. Thereare plenty of wonderful walks to the sea through open heath and mixed woodland and, at the end of a busyday, the pubs in the village offer a good choice of food. For essential supplies there is also well-stocked localshop.The tiny village of Eastbridge is not only home to a famous 16th Century Ale House, The Eels Foot Inn - theperfect place for an evening drink - it is also the nearest village to RSPB Minsmere. There are variousfootpaths from the village to the coast and the reserve.Middleton has a village green, a pretty thatched pub, and on the road through to nearby Theberton makesure you look out for the farm shop and café and the amazing ‘metal man’ on the side of the road.Saxmundham is a charming market town and is the largest in this area, with a busy high street and twolocal markets which run weekly on a Wednesday and Friday. There are also two supermarkets, so you cantop up with supplies from here.Friday Street Farm Shop & Kitchen boasts plenty of local produce from its Butchery, Greengrocers andFishmongers. It also includes produce supplied from local businesses such as Aspall, St Peter’s Brewery,Munchies, Stokes, and Suffolk Meadow ice cream.THE SHOTLEY PENINSULAThe Shotley Peninsula is one of our favourite places - our very own Suffolk Secret! Set within an Area ofOutstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) the roads wind their way around the estuaries of the River Stour andRiver Orwell with quaint villages and towns to explore along the way.
SuffolkC O AS TJust north of the Shotley Peninsula and across the River Orwell, you’ll find Felixstowe which is aquintessentially British seaside town. Stroll along the beach hut lined promenade and spend your days onthe shores building sandcastles or perhaps try your luck in the arcade amusements!Beach Street Felixstowe is a unique dining and shopping hot-spot and is made entirely from upcycledshipping containers! Here you can discover independent shops,boutiques, and restaurants. There are plenty of places to visit nearby, such as Landguard Fort and TrimleyMarshes.Chelmondiston is a pretty and thriving village with a good variety of local shops and wonderful walksthroughout nearby Pin Mill and the surrounding area courtesy of the National Trust. Alton Water Reservoiris a firm favourite of ours, where you can hire canoes, kayaks, row boats, paddleboards and sailing dinghies!It’s a great day on the water, no matter the weather! Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park is just down the roadtoo, with plenty of animals, attractions and adventures awaiting. You can even stop there for a spot ofbreakfast, lunch, or dinner in the restored restaurant barn.For some delicious and locally grown holiday supplies, a visit to the award-winning Suffolk Food Hall is amust! Offering a huge variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, sustainably caught fish and locally reared meat.There is also kitchen store, garden centre, gift shop and onsite restaurant with views over the river.Shotley itself is located at the end of the Shotley Peninsular where the River Orwell meets the River Stour.From Shotley Gate there are views across to Felixstowe and you can watch giant cargo ships being loadedup before they head off to other ports all over the world.Our Shotley Peninsula properties offer the perfect base from which to discover other nearby destinationssuch as Ipswich Marina, The Butt and Oyster Pub at Pin Mill, and Jimmy’s Farm at Wherstead.For any issues during your stay please call theSuffolk Secret Team on 01502 722717
