FRANK’S SEDGE<br />

Native to wet meadows and woods, bottomland<br />

forests, lake and pond margins and disturbed<br />

areas in eastern and central North America. Has<br />

a bunching habit with medium-wide foliage and<br />

spiky seed heads. Will spread via rhizomes. Use<br />

in bioswales, remediation projects, ditches, and<br />

wet areas in the landscape.<br />

Cool season, green, 1’-2’, sun-part shade, moist-wet,<br />

flowers late spring, Zones 5-8, Origin: North America<br />

LURID SEDGE<br />

Found in wet meadows, marshes, ditches, pond<br />

edges, and wetlands in eastern North America;<br />

mostly in acidic, <strong>of</strong>ten sandy soils. Green foliage<br />

with a bunching habit, and attractive, spiky<br />

seed heads similar to C. comosa, but yellow.<br />

Adapts to average soil, part shade. Useful in<br />

rain gardens, bioswales, ditches, and wet areas.<br />

Spreads easily; site where spreading desired.<br />

Cool season, green, 1’-3’, 3’ with blooms, sun-part<br />

shade, average-wet, flowers late spring, Zones 3-8,<br />

GRAY’S SEDGE<br />

Native to the eastern half <strong>of</strong> North America,<br />

Gray’s Sedge is found in floodplains, swamps,<br />

and bottomland forests. It draws attention with<br />

pale-green seed heads that resemble threedimensional<br />

stars. Works well in lower zones<br />

<strong>of</strong> rain gardens and bioswales. Fabulous at the<br />

edge <strong>of</strong> ponds, in wet areas, or in containers with<br />

other moisture-loving plants.<br />

BUNNY BLUE ®<br />

A showpiece <strong>of</strong> beautiful, wide, blue leaves.<br />

Useful ground cover, in borders, or mixed with<br />

shade-garden favorites. Appropriate for middleto-upper<br />

zones <strong>of</strong> rain gardens. Can take more<br />

sun if planted in rich, moist soil; otherwise plant<br />

in shade or part sun. This native cultivar is the<br />

result <strong>of</strong> seed collected by Bob Head <strong>of</strong> Head<br />

Ornamentals, Seneca, SC. Bunny Blue ® is a<br />

Carex morrowii 'Ice Dance'<br />

ICE DANCE SEDGE<br />

This popular sedge grows in an arching shape to<br />

12". Spreads by rhizomes; suitable as a ground<br />

cover. Enlivens shady areas with vivid deepgreen<br />

centers and white margins on half-inchwide<br />

leaves. Evergreen in mild climates. Will<br />

take sun in cooler climates. Does best in rich,<br />

moist soil and will spread quickly when happy.<br />

Brought to the U.S. from Japan by Barry Yinger.<br />
