It’s massively exciting for everyone at the club to be back at
Twickenham today for the Gallagher Premiership Rugby Final.
Looking back over the season there have been a number of
highlights, not least The Showdown 2 at Tottenham Hotspur
Stadium which was a huge event for the whole club and it was
a very proud moment to see us run out at such an iconic venue.
It has been a huge group effort all season to get us to this
point and I am incredibly grateful to all our players and staff for
all of their efforts and for making this year so enjoyable.
We face a Leicester Tigers team today who have had a superb
season, and huge credit must go to Steve Borthwick and his
coaching team. Steve was a great captain for our club and it is
no surprise that he is having such a huge impact as a coach.
We are also bidding farewell to a number of players this
afternoon and I would like to thank them for everything they
have done for the club.
Tim Swinson, Richard Barrington, Vincent Koch, Elliott
Obatoyinbo, Sean Reffell, Janco Venter, Tom Mills and Charlie
Watson have all been fantastic for us and we wish them and
their families well for the future.
The support that we have received this season from our fans
has been remarkable and we cannot thank them enough. There
is something special building at StoneX Stadium and we hope
to give our supporters another reason to cheer today as we
head towards the break in the summer.
We have had a very enjoyable week and can’t wait to get out
there today for this fantastic occasion.
Today is an exciting day for everybody at Leicester Tigers.
Whether you are a player, coach, staff member, supporter, sponsor –
we have reached this season’s Final on the back of all of your efforts.
We have not been here for a long time and, after recent seasons
where the club was not been taking part in big games like today’s at
Twickenham, I am sure it feels even more special.
The challenge is a big one, an exciting one, against a formidable
team in Saracens. We know that and we are looking forward to it.
The focus for us has not changed from Round 1 of this season’s
Gallagher Premiership Rugby; every single week we have gone out
with the intention of delivering a performance that will make our
supporters, our families and our friends proud.
As a group, we are still very early on in our journey together and
have experienced plenty of highs and lows in a short space of time
alongside one another. But, from all of them, we have grown tighter
and we have learned something to help carry the club forward.
Today is another step on the journey, a big step, and the players
have worked tirelessly to be prepared to deliver on making
everyone at Leicester Tigers proud with their performance.
The bond between the club and our supporters feels stronger every
day and I hope that you, the fans, can see how much your support
means to us.
Since fans were allowed back in the stands, Leicester Tigers
supporters have flooded through the gates at Mattioli Woods
Welford Road and throughout away venues in England and Europe,
which has helped us compete on the pitch with the incredible
support behind us.
The pandemic showed everybody not only how much our game
needs supporters in the stands, but also how privileged we are to
have the competition, the backing and the occasions – like today –
as part of what we do.
Thank you to everybody who got our game through that time and
have made this season such an exciting, entertaining and enjoyable
one for all who are a part of Gallagher Premiership Rugby.
Finally, to everybody at Leicester Tigers, thank you for helping us be
here today.
