Resurrectional Apolytikion
When the angelic powers appeared at Your
grave, the soldiers guarding it feared and became
as dead. And standing by the sepulcher
was Mary who was seeking Your immaculate
body. You devastated Hades, not afflicted by it.
You went to meet the virgin, and granted eternal
life. You resurrected from the dead. O Lord,
glory to You.
For the Saint
The Master who called you to eternal mansions
on high preserves incorrupt your body even after
you died, O holy Evdokimos; for you had led
a lifestyle of self-restraint and decorum, never
staining your flesh; and therefore truly you are
blessed. With confidence intercede with Christ
to save our souls.
Apolytikion of St. Catherine
Let us praise the most auspicious bride of
Christ, the divine Katherine, protectress of Sinai,
our aid and our help. For, she brilliantly
silenced the eloquence of the impious by the
sword of the spirit, and now, crowned as a martyr,
she asks great mercy for all.
Apolytikion of the Church
Ιn giving birth, you did preserve your virginity;
in your dormition you did not forsake
the world O Theotokos. You were
translated onto life, since you were the
Mother of life; And by your intercessions do
you redeem our souls from death.
Kontakion
Upon the mountain were You transfigured,
and Your disciples beheld Your glory as far
as they were able, O Christ our God; so that
when they would see You crucified they
might understand that Your Passion was
deliberate, and declare to the world that in
truth You are the Father's radiance.

EPISTLE READING
ROMANS (15:1-7)
Brethren, we who are strong ought to
bear with the failings of the weak, and
not to please ourselves; let each of us
please his neighbor for his good, to edify
him. For Christ did not please himself;
but, as it is written, "The reproaches of
those who reproached thee fell on me."
For whatever was written in former days
was written for our instruction, that by
steadfastness and by the encouragement
of the scriptures we might have hope.
May the God of steadfastness and encouragement
grant you to live in such
harmony with one another, in accord
with Christ Jesus, that together you may
with one voice glorify the God and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome
one another, therefore, as Christ has welcomed
you, for the glory of God.

Ἀδελφοί, ὀφείλομεν δὲ ἡμεῖς οἱ
δυνατοὶ τὰ ἀσθενήματα τῶν ἀδυνάτων
βαστάζειν, καὶ μὴ ἑαυτοῖς ἀρέσκειν.
Ἕκαστος ἡμῶν τῷ πλησίον ἀρεσκέτω
εἰς τὸ ἀγαθὸν πρὸς οἰκοδομήν. Καὶ
γὰρ ὁ Χριστὸς οὐχ ἑαυτῷ ἤρεσεν,
ἀλλά, καθὼς γέγραπται, Οἱ ὀνειδισμοὶ
τῶν ὀνειδιζόντων σε ἐπέπεσον ἐπʼ
ἐμέ. Ὅσα γὰρ προεγράφη, εἰς τὴν
ἡμετέραν διδασκαλίαν προεγράφη,

GOSPEL READING
MATTHEW (9:27-35)
At that time, as Jesus passed by, two blind men followed
him, crying aloud, "Have mercy on us, Son
of David." When he entered the house, the blind
men came to him; and Jesus said to them, "Do you
believe that I am able to do this?" They said to him,
"Yes, Lord." Then he touched their eyes, saying,
"According to your faith be it done to you." And
their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly charged
them, "See that no one knows it." But they went away and spread his fame
through all that district.
As they were going away, behold, a dumb demoniac was brought to him. And
when the demon had been cast out, the dumb man spoke; and the crowds marveled,
saying, "Never was anything like this seen in Israel." But the Pharisees
said, "He casts out demons by the prince of demons."
And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues
and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every infirmity
among the people.

Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, παράγοντι ἐκεῖθεν τῷ ᾿Ιησοῦ
ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ δύο τυφλοὶ κράζοντες καὶ
λέγοντες· ἐλέησον ἡμᾶς, υἱὲ Δαυΐδ. ἐλθόντι δὲ εἰς
τὴν οἰκίαν προσῆλθον αὐτῷ οἱ τυφλοί, καὶ λέγει
αὐτοῖς ὁ ᾿Ιησοῦς· πιστεύετε ὅτι δύναμαι τοῦτο
ποιῆσαι; λέγουσιν αὐτῷ· ναί, Κύριε. τότε ἥψατο
τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν αὐτῶν λέγων· κατὰ τὴν πίστιν ὑμῶν
γενηθήτω ὑμῖν. καὶ ἀνεῴχθησαν αὐτῶν οἱ
ὀφθαλμοί· καὶ ἐνεβριμήσατο αὐτοῖς ὁ ᾿Ιησοῦς λέγων· ὁρᾶτε μηδεὶς γινωσκέτω. οἱ
δὲ ἐξελθόντες διεφήμισαν αὐτὸν ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ γῇ ἐκείνῃ.
Αὐτῶν δὲ ἐξερχομένων ἰδοὺ προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ ἄνθρωπον κωφὸν
δαιμονιζόμενον· καὶ ἐκβληθέντος τοῦ δαιμονίου ἐλάλησεν ὁ κωφός, καὶ
ἐθαύμασαν οἱ ὄχλοι λέγοντες ὅτι οὐδέποτε ἐφάνη οὕτως ἐν τῷ ᾿Ισραήλ. οἱ δὲ
Φαρισαῖοι ἔλεγον· ἐν τῷ ἄρχοντι τῶν δαιμονίων ἐκβάλλει τὰ δαιμόνια.
Καὶ περιῆγεν ὁ ᾿Ιησοῦς τὰς πόλεις πάσας καὶ τὰς κώμας διδάσκων ἐν ταῖς
συναγωγαῖς αὐτῶν καὶ κηρύσσων τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τῆς βασιλείας καὶ θεραπεύων
πᾶσαν νόσον καὶ πᾶσαν μαλακίαν ἐν τῷ λαῷ.

This week’s Sermon
Two Blind Men
St. Matthew 9 (27-35)
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ
Our faith is a double-edged sword. On one side
it is the only way of salvation, and on the other it
is the most difficult one for humans to embrace. It is a faith handed down
to us by eyewitnesses and yet our Lord and Savior proclaims to his
friends and disciples that the blessing is in believing without seeing.
Today the Lord heals two different impairments, people who were
blind and people who could not speak. The power of healing is unimaginable.
Just by touching, the Creator recreates what had been damaged by
the evil one in the result of the separation from Him. Today, however,
dear brothers and sisters, I would like to pay attention to the power of the
faith that these people had when they came to Christ.
It is not accidental that the Lord asks them, "Do you believe that I
am able to do this?" Our salvation is directly connected to our faith. Thus,
He says to them: "According to your faith be it done to you.” The beauty
of the faith of these people is even greater because their faith was not
based on their material knowledge or collected data but the purity of their
hearts. We say “seeing is believing and faith comes from hearing” but today
we learn that even the blind and the mute believed and found healing
even though some of them could not see him and others could not hear
His saving words.
We dear brothers and sisters are very much like these blind and
mute people who came to the Lord because like them we also cannot see
Him, and we cannot hear Him. Therefore, let us have a love for one another
so that like the blind and the mute we also can come to him with the
vision and the hearing of our pure hearts so that we also can hear about
our salvation: "According to your faith be it done to you."

Αγαπητοί εν Χριστώ αδελφοί,
Η πίστη μας είναι ένα δίκοπο μαχαίρι. Από τη μία
πλευρά είναι ο μόνος τρόπος σωτηρίας και από την
άλλη είναι ο πιο δύσκολος για τους ανθρώπους να
αποδεχτούν. Είναι μια πίστη που μας παραδόθηκε από αυτόπτες μάρτυρες και
όμως ο Κύριος και ο Σωτήρας μας διακηρύσσει στους φίλους και τους
μαθητές του ότι η ευλογία είναι να πιστεύoυμε χωρίς να βλέπουμε.
Σήμερα ο Κύριος θεραπεύει δύο διαφορετικές αναπηρίες, ανθρώπους
που ήταν τυφλοί και ανθρώπους που δεν μπορούσαν να μιλήσουν. Η δύναμη
της θεραπείας είναι αδιανόητη. Απλώς αγγίζοντας, ο Δημιουργός
αναδημιουργεί ό,τι είχε καταστραφεί από τον πονηρό ως αποτέλεσμα του
χωρισμού από Αυτόν. Σήμερα, όμως, αγαπητοί αδελφοί και αδελφές, θα ήθελα
να δώσω προσοχή στη δύναμη της πίστης που είχαν αυτοί οι άνθρωποι όταν
ήρθαν στον Χριστό.
Δεν είναι τυχαίο που ο Κύριος τους ρωτά, "Πιστεύεις ότι μπορώ να το
κάνω αυτό;" Η σωτηρία μας συνδέεται άμεσα με την πίστη μας. Έτσι τους
λέει: "Ας γίνει σύμφωνα με την πίστη σας,."Η ομορφιά της πίστης αυτών των
ανθρώπων είναι ακόμα μεγαλύτερη επειδή η πίστη τους δεν βασίστηκε στις
υλικές γνώσεις τους ή στα συλλεχθέντα δεδομένα, αλλά στην καθαρότητα της
καρδιάς τους. Λέμε ότι «το να βλέπεις είναι πίστη και η πίστη προέρχεται από
την ακρόαση», αλλά σήμερα μαθαίνουμε ότι ακόμη και οι τυφλοί και οι
βουβοί πίστεψαν και βρήκαν θεραπεία, παρόλο που μερικοί από αυτούς δεν
μπορούσαν να Τον δουν και άλλοι δεν μπορούσαν να ακούσουν τα σωστά
λόγια Του.
Εμείς, αγαπητοί αδελφοί και αδερφές, μοιάζουμε πολύ με αυτούς τους
τυφλούς και βουβούς ανθρώπους που ήρθαν στον Κύριο, γιατί όπως και αυτοί,
δεν μπορούμε να Τον δούμε και δεν μπορούμε να Τον ακούσουμε. Ας έχουμε
λοιπόν αγάπη ο ένας για τον άλλον, ώστε, όπως οι τυφλοί και οι βουβοί, να
έρθουμε και εμείς σε αυτόν με την όραση και την ακοή της καθαρής καρδιάς
μας, ώστε να μπορούμε επίσης να ακούσουμε για τη σωτηρία μας: " Ας γίνει
σύμφωνα με την πίστη σας "

Eudocimus the Righteous of Cappadocia
Saint Eudocimus, a native of Cappadocia (Asia Minor), lived during
the ninth century during the reign of Emperor Theophilus (829-
842). He was the son of the pious Christians Basil and Eudokia, an
illustrious family known to the emperor. They raised their son “in
discipline and admonition of the Lord” (Eph. 6: 4), planting in his
soul a sincere faith and holy virtues.
The righteous life of Saint Eudocimus was devoted to pleasing God
and serving his neighbor. Having given a vow to remain unmarried
and chaste, he avoided conversation with women and did not look
at them. He would speak only with his own mother, whom he greatly
respected. The emperor valued his virtue and talents, so he appointed Saint Eudocimus
as governor of Chorziane, Armenia. Fulfilling his duty as a servant of God, Saint Eudocimus
governed the people justly and with kindness. He concerned himself with the unfortunate,
and with orphans and widows, and he was a defender of the common people. His
personal Christian exploits which he did in secret, were known only to God.
Eudocimus pleased God by his blameless life, and the Lord called him at age 33. Lying
on his deathbed, Saint Eudocimus gave final instructions to place him in the grave in
those clothes in which he would meet death. Then he sent everyone out of the room and
entreated the Lord that no one would see his end, just as no one saw his secret efforts
during life. His attendants buried him as he had instructed them. Right after the death of
Saint Eudocimus miracles took place at his grave. Many sick people were healed, and the
news of the miraculous healings spread.
After 18 months, the mother of Saint Eudocimus came from Constantinople to venerate
his relics. She gave orders to remove the stone, dig up the ground, and open the grave.
Everyone beheld the face of the saint, bright as if alive, altogether untouched by decay. A
great fragrance came from him. They took up the coffin with the relics from the earth,
and they dressed the saint in new clothes. His mother wanted to take the relics of her son
to Constantinople, but the Kharsian people would not clear a path for their holy one. After
a certain time the hieromonk Joseph, having lived and served at the grave of the saint,
transported the relics of Saint Eudocimus to Constantinople. There they were placed in a
silver reliquary in the church of the Most Holy Theotokos, built by the parents of the
saint.
Saint Eudocimus is considered by the Russian Church to be one of the special protectors
and intercessors before God of the family hearth. He was, as his name implies, truly successful
in every virtue.
