Sunday <strong>31</strong> st July <strong>2022</strong> – The Sixth Sunday After Trinity<br />

Those we know who need our prayers: Cecile, Angela, Robert, Geoffrey, Betty, Joan, Peter and<br />

his family.<br />

Those who have died recently: Wayne Barry, Norman Lovell<br />

Those who have died this <strong>week</strong> in years passed: Jacqueline Virtue, Ruth <strong>St</strong>one, Cliff Weare,<br />

Ray Gillard, Ernest May, Leslie Miller<br />

Prayer <strong>for</strong> this time of Coronavirus<br />

Keep us, good Lord,<br />

under <strong>the</strong> shadow of your mercy<br />

in this time of uncertainty and distress.<br />

Sustain and support <strong>the</strong> anxious and fearful,<br />

and lift up all who are brought low;<br />

that we may rejoice in your com<strong>for</strong>t<br />

knowing that nothing can separate us from your love<br />

in Christ Jesus our Lord.<br />

Amen.<br />

A Prayer <strong>for</strong> Ukraine<br />

God of peace and justice,<br />

we pray <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> people of Ukraine today.<br />

We pray <strong>for</strong> peace and <strong>the</strong> laying down of weapons.<br />

We pray <strong>for</strong> all those who fear <strong>for</strong> tomorrow,<br />

that your Spirit of com<strong>for</strong>t would draw near to <strong>the</strong>m.<br />

We pray <strong>for</strong> those with power over war or peace,<br />

<strong>for</strong> wisdom, discernment and compassion to guide <strong>the</strong>ir decisions.<br />

Above all, we pray <strong>for</strong> all your precious children, at risk and in fear,<br />

that you would hold and protect <strong>the</strong>m.<br />

We pray in <strong>the</strong> name of Jesus, <strong>the</strong> Prince of Peace.<br />

Amen.<br />

Events and Anniversaries: 1972 [50] The Washington Post newspaper published <strong>the</strong> first<br />

article that exposed U.S. President Richard Nixon’s involvement in <strong>the</strong> Watergate scandal.<br />

The article by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein revealed that $25,000 of Nixon’s re-election<br />

campaign fund had been paid into <strong>the</strong> bank account of one of <strong>the</strong> men recently arrested <strong>for</strong><br />

breaking into <strong>the</strong> Democratic National Committee Headquarters<br />

2002 [20] Soham murders, Cambridgeshire, UK. Ten-year-old schoolgirls Jessica Chapman and<br />

Holly Wells went missing. Their bodies were found in a ditch in Suffolk two <strong>week</strong>s later. School<br />

caretaker Ian Huntley and his girlfriend Maxine Carr were convicted.<br />
