As a traditional, family-run company, we put sustainability<br />

<strong>at</strong> the heart of everything we do.<br />

Our management and sustainability teams work together to<br />

set ambitious but realistic targets within the framework of the<br />

European Green Deal. We then put various measures in place to<br />

meet these targets.<br />

Consistency and measurability are key aspects of this process.<br />

We’re now extending measures to all our sites where possible – and<br />

we’re launching some new projects <strong>at</strong> our headquarters in Lauben.<br />

Along the entire supply chain<br />

effective CO 2 reduction<br />

When trying to reduce emissions, we focus<br />

on energy use in manufacturing. But our raw<br />

m<strong>at</strong>erial – milk – is even more important.<br />

Th<strong>at</strong>’s because the milk th<strong>at</strong>’s used – and the way it’s<br />

produced – has a huge influence on our products’<br />

environmental footprint. And this is exactly where<br />

we’re taking action.<br />

AN EXCITING PILOT PROJECT<br />

We launched the Low Carbon Farms project with<br />

dairy farmers in southern Bavaria.<br />

the found<strong>at</strong>ion Bodensee-Stiftung<br />

“We use a combined he<strong>at</strong> and<br />

power system with 80 % efficiency.<br />

N<strong>at</strong>ural-gas and steam turbines<br />

increase the share of electricity<br />

100 % of the resulting he<strong>at</strong> is used<br />

the participants of the Low Carbon Farms<br />

project. We hope they’ll share the insights they’ve<br />

gained, and more milk producers will join – all of<br />

which will further improve clim<strong>at</strong>e protection.<br />

By 2030 we aim to reduce CO₂ emissions from<br />

manufacturing <strong>at</strong> our Lauben site by <strong>at</strong> least<br />

58 % (in absolute terms) compared with the<br />

1990 level.*<br />

From milk supply to product distribution,<br />

we’re always improving our energy efficiency<br />

system<strong>at</strong>ically, using a certified energymanagement<br />

system. Our professional<br />

environmental-management system helps us<br />

to keep improving our overall environmental<br />

performance too.<br />

By doing this, we’ve cut our CO₂ emissions<br />

considerably.<br />

Wh<strong>at</strong>’s more, the electricity we use is<br />

100 % green – <strong>at</strong> all our sites.<br />

The main starting-point for setting our<br />

company-wide CO₂ reduction target<br />

was the German Clim<strong>at</strong>e Change Act,<br />

passed by the Bundestag in 2021.<br />

* When we refer to CO₂, we always mean<br />

CO₂ equivalent. Th<strong>at</strong>’s because we measure<br />

other greenhouse gases too – as you’d expect<br />

– and we include them in our calcul<strong>at</strong>ions in<br />

accordance with their impact.<br />
