The first edition of the '<strong>Annual</strong> Status <strong>Report</strong> on <strong>RNTCP</strong>' was published eleven years ago providing an<br />
overview of the progress made in TB control efforts in <strong>India</strong> and has been consistently released every year, since then,<br />
on the World TB Day, the 24th March. <strong>India</strong> has made an enormous progress towards in TB control and the twelfth<br />
edition of <strong>RNTCP</strong> status report "TB <strong>India</strong> <strong>2012</strong>" contains a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of TB control<br />
activities in <strong>India</strong> and progress made at district, states/UTs and country levels during the calendar year 2011. The state/<br />
UT and district wise performance indicators have been presented on various parameters, alongwith their success stories<br />
picturing the vital efforts of the health care providers down to most peripheral levels, in taking the TB control services<br />
to the doorsteps of the TB patients. The recent advances in the programme have also been presented in this report.<br />
The enormous efforts made by the concerned authorities and functionaries of the 35 States/ UTs, all the<br />
<strong>RNTCP</strong> Consultants as well as various experts towards ensuring the efficient implementation and achieving the objectives<br />
of <strong>RNTCP</strong> in our country, are highly appreciated. The Central TB Division is also thankful for the invaluable<br />
contributions and collaboration of the multilateral & bilateral agencies and donors like Global Fund, World Health<br />
Organization, World Bank, USAID, BMGF, UNION, World Vision, FIND, PATH to name a few of the many other<br />
non-governmental agencies and institutions for their support and expertise in helping <strong>RNTCP</strong> which is being recognized<br />
as one of the best disease control programme not only in the country but also globally.<br />
As in the past years, this <strong>Annual</strong> Status <strong>Report</strong> 'TB <strong>India</strong> <strong>2012</strong>' will serve as a National Reference Document on<br />
<strong>RNTCP</strong>. The information contained in this report will prove useful to policy makers, programme implementers, health<br />
administrators, researchers and academicians as well as to the community at large for providing better services for<br />
universal quality TB care and control of TB in our country.<br />
The Central TB Division thanks the esteemed readers for popularizing this national document and solicits their<br />
suggestions and valuable comments for improving the future editions.<br />
We are grateful to all the authorities, officers & staff of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Directorate<br />
General Health Services, Govt. of <strong>India</strong> for their continued support to <strong>RNTCP</strong> for its efficient and effective<br />
implementation.<br />
