AUGUST 2022
SKERRYVORE :: USA Tour - see weblink below for
details. Back on the remote Scottish island of Tiree in
2005, the raw but contemporary trad quartet that
formed Skerryvore could have only dreamed that over
the next decade they would become a multi-award
winning act that was performing in over 25 countries
worldwide and featured as ambassadors for their
country in an International advertising campaign for
Visit Scotland. From those traditional roots the band
have developed both in size and sound to create a
unique fusion of their traditional music and songs with
the urban sounds of rock, pop and funk. The band’s
ability to fuse traditional Scottish music and rhythms
with a range of other genres is a trademark of their
distinctive, high energy sound.
16 SEPTEMBER
MURDO MITCHELL :: At St Pancras Old Church,
London. Murdo Mitchell’s smooth and haunting vocals
move listeners through the aching emotional
experience of loss and heartbreak, delving into
themes of broken trust and lost promises embodied
by a dark, captivating melody. ‘Ghosts’ delivers a
painful coming of age rhetoric set to a powerful,
thumping beat and the heavy tension of a cold and
lonely night. Murdo Mitchell’s new single ‘Ghosts’ is
out now via Icons Creating Evil Art.
13 OCTOBER
LAU (Unplugged) :: At Cecil Sharp House, London.
8pm. Brilliant musicians, thrilling performers, freethinking
visionaries and all-round good chaps as well…
small wonder Lau are regarded as the epicentre of the
new folk boom. Lau comprises Kris Drever (vocals,
guitar), Martin Green (accordion, wurlitzer, keys,
electronics) and Aidan O’Rourke (fiddle) and together
they effortlessly bridge the seemingly diametrically
opposed worlds of acoustic folk tradition and post
rock – electronics.
www.facebook.com/LAUband
10 NOVEMBER
TAMZENE :: At Laylow, London. Tamzene spent
years busking contemporary pop songs which taught
her invaluable songwriting skills. Taking cues from
pop contemporaries such as Adele and Alicia Keys as
much as the classic voices of Ella
Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin, her vocal is bold and
innately emotive, and truly enraptures any audience.
She is now touring promoting her new EP, 'Details'.
PICTISH TRAIL :: At Moth Club, London. Isle-of-
Eigg dwelling electro-acoustic psych-pop wonder
Pictish Trail aka Johnny Lynch’s most recent
acclaimed album Island Family explores connections
to both place and time from the viewpoint of his life
on a remote Scottish island. "Svelt, intelligent,
The Fallen Angels Club presents ..... THE
HANDSOME FAMILY plus DANIEL KNOX :: At
Community Central Halls, Glasgow. The Handsome
Family have written some of the most haunting
and beautiful songs in American music. During a
30-year career, Brett and Rennie Sparks have
created songs that transform the mundane
landscape of modern life into a place of
mysterious portent. Handsome Family songs take
place in parking lots and big box stores, under
overpasses and in airports. They sing about
Custer’s last stand and automatic lawn sprinklers
in the same song. Rennie’s lyrics often focus on
the myriad creatures that live at the edges of the
man-made world: the sparrows, rats, cockroaches
and crows that share our cities. The Fallen Angels
Club is celebrating its 18th year of bringing quality
live roots music to Glasgow and Edinburgh.
