CLUB HISTORY - NORTH GREENFORD UNITED
The experienced management team of Danny Vincent and Colin Murphy were offered and accepted the position.
They were duly appointed in time to take charge of the Chertsey Town home game on 11th October. After the poor
start the club eventually finished the 2016/17 season in a creditable 13th position on 58 points. Unfortunately we
became the league’s draw specialists the following season, dropping points in games we should have won.
Season 2017/18 will be most remembered for appalling weather conditions with the season extended to the
second week in May 2018. Despite ending the campaign on a high with four wins on the spin, overall this had been a
disappointing season with the team again finishing 13th but with fewer points than the previous year.
Two major changes were then forced on the club. Danny and Colin unexpectedly resigned followed by an FA
decision to move us to the Spartan League Premier Division. On the management side we were quick to re-appoint
Paul Palmer and Matt Penfold who had just won promotion from the SSMFL Division One with Southall. Neither were
new to the club and with the experienced squad they had brought to the club, we had high expectations at the start
of the 2018/19 campaign.
Unfortunately, these were not realized, and the team became embroiled in a relegation fight. Although three late
wins helped secure our survival as a Step 5 club, a 16th place finish with just 34 points on the board left the
committee with no choice but to again make managerial changes. Following two extremely successful seasons as
Under 18’s manager, the decision was taken to offer the First Team post to Colin Jones a position which Colin,
supported by his full Youth management team, accepted.
That team, led by Colin, remained in post, with Dino Pashias taking over the role of Youth Team manager, hoping the
re-run of the Covid-19 abandoned 2019/20 season would lead to a much improved league performance!
Unfortunately, a further Covid-19 lockdown again led to the early termination of the 2020/21 season, the highlight
of which was a magnificent run in the FA Vase when, for the first time in the club’s history, the First Team reached
the Third Round Proper.
In April 2021 Colin Jones decided, for personal reasons, to resign as First Team Manager. The Committee met
shortly afterwards and agreed unanimously to offer the position to Assistant Managers Paul Mills and Gary Brown.
Paul and Gary accepted the offer, agreeing with each other to share the responsibilities of the post.
With the FA having decided to go ahead with its NLS re-structuring plans, it was confirmed in May that, as expected,
the club would be placed in the newly formed Combined Counties Premier Division North. The club were pleased to
be re-joining the CCFL confident we would do well with Paul and Gary at the helm.
As it happened season 2021/22 proved the most successful since the club were crowned CCFL champions back in
2010. At the turn of the year the Blues were holding on to second place behind runaway leaders Hanworth Villa.
But, despite some disappointing results during the second half of the season the team still managed to finish in
5th place, a tremendous achievement for Paul, Gary and their players.
After excellent performances and an unbeaten run in the pre-season friendlies, we firmly believe that with Paul and
Gary still at the helm, supported by Terry Schofield on his return to the club, the side will do even better this season.
